I use the dice to pirate people with my latest creation. Pair.a.Dice. Its good fun and most people (the ones that are here for the RP) like the way of pirating. So, the dice is quite an essential tool for this.

There is only one problem. You can cheat with it, VERY easily, without your fellow player knowing that you do that. I know that I don't cheat with the dice, but I can't guarantee it, and while pirating, people usually don't trust you.

So, the solution. Easy, place the number of possibilities in the output of the command. Like Pair.a.Dice throws 3 out of 6or Pair.a.Dice throws 2 with a 3-sided dice. This is a very easy solution that fixes everything. No more cheating possible, and you can make the dice into a fair game.

Any thoughts on this?

yeah good idea... players can abuse casinos too with that...

example:

casino ands player /dice

who has higher number wins, if the player wins he get a million

casino /dice (so it is 6 sided)

player /dice 7 (there is a chance that he "/dice" a 7 but it is not so big... but the chance is higher to get a higher number)

I've been doing Dice Piracy for quite a while and I don't know what you're talking about. Cheating? It's generating a random number between 1 and 6, the message is displayed to all the ships around you similar to a /l message, so they can read your results as well.

Where is the room for dishonesty?

And where in the rulebook does it say a pirate has to be honest? If they can rig a gamble and make some credits without the trader being any wiser, why not?

Hm?
Throwing a w3 two times kinda ****s up the chances:)

2w3:

1 = never occurs
2 = 1+1,
3 = 1+2, 2+1
4 = 1+3, 2+2, 3+1
5 = 2+3, 3+2
6 = 3+3

right?

Regards,
Talesin

Indeed, the problem is that you can't know between which numbers the command works. Just add something simple to the output, and the problem is solved...

Basically there's a parameter that allows you to define how many sides the die is meant to have. This is a good thing, as still only a random number between 1 and the variable number is generated and thus allows for easy customization.

The problem is in the output line only saying:
"Player rolled x"
There is no way for others to know how many sides the die had. If you have a game where it's important to get a low number, you can cheat by using /dice 2 or something like that.
If you changed the ouput to
"Player rolled x with a y-sided die."
Everything would be in the green.

Don't let the victim roll.

Roll it yourself.

Or use /coin.

I usually play odds or evens. I roll, the trader rolls, and if the total is odd, one wins, even the other wins. The lowest value that can be specified is /dice 2 so it's 50/50 whether it's odd or even. Even if you /dice 1, it still uses 2.

No chance of cheating from either side in this case.

You also could just amend the FLHook command;), so the output is changed. Probably some work for one of the Disco code gurus, but I daresay it should be possible.
