This background info is help exlpain the Rp of my current ship the Ali's Sabre and and my refernaces to the Black Knight Alliance:
The Black Knight Alliance was formed roughly seven years ago out of a large-scale conflict between Sumara-backed mercenary factions on the outskirts of Sirius. Before the conflict, many of the ground-based mercenary units enjoyed sterling reputations as guns-for-hire on the border worlds and in contested locations throughout House space. Mechanized Armor (called mechs for short) in the form of large robotic walkers became the signature vehicle of the mercenary groups and bolstered their reputation as some of the best military assets in all of the Colonies. The mercs were frequently given large contracts to neutralize and defend military operations planet-side and to assist military forces. However, as the mercenary clans grew in size and reputation, they began competing against each other for contracts and resources. It did not take long for the remaining ties between mercenary the clans to evaporate and competition became increasingly fierce. While this occasionally led to small-scale skirmishes between different factions, clans continued to deliver exceptional military performance despite internal power struggles.
The conflict between mercenary clans reached its boiling point four yeas later during an uprising of fishery workers on planet Kurile. The workers demanded higher pay and better work conditions as well as the overhaul of the corrupt, profit skimming Sumara-backed government. Samara, however, did nothing to assuage the concerns of the laborers on Kurile and instead instituted a new constitution that worked against, not for, the workers. The crisis escalated to its breaking point when the Corsairs, wishing to drive Sumara from their space, provided the disgruntled fishery workers with credits, arms and soldiers to initiate an organized revolt. Because the revolutionists had no heavy armor assets, they contracted several of the best mercenary clans and their 100-ton mechs to assist. Sumara, seeing its profits threatened formulated a bold plan to crush the revolt and the Corsairs in one swift stroke. Sumara contracted its own mercenaries and then used its corporate accounts to contract more mercenaries for to the Corsairs and revolutionists. The workers accepted the extra assets without hesitation not realizing that Sumara had backed the initial contracts. More and more mech clans joined in on the upcoming conflict, most wishing to finally prove their superiority over another clan. In four months, almost every merc faction choose a side on Kurile. On November 14th 808AS the workers revolted, and it seemed that the revolution had gone exactly as planned; until some of the mercenary units (hired by Sumara) turned on their allies. These turncoats shifted the balance of power in Sumaras favor and forced the revolutionists to retreat. The final stand between the revolutionists and Samara took place on the fishing platforms in the southern sea. It was at this point that Sumara revealed the final stage of its plan to crush the revolt. Samara had used its political pull within the Kusari government to secure a battleship with long-range weaponry. The ship attacked from orbit, destroying the Mercs, the Revolutionists and the Corsairs. The age of mercenaries and their war machines seemed to be over. The clans disbanded within two months and the survivors fled to the far reaches of the border worlds. It would be years before any of them were heard from again.
Seven years ago, Edmond Doshka, the admiral of the treacherous Samara-backed legions quietly announced his intentions to rebuild the nearly forgotten mercenary factions and once again restore honor to the battlefield. Doshka founded the Black Knight Alliance and laid out the Seven Decrees a strict honor code that all members of the alliance must follow. It was rumored that Doshka wrote the code after he discovered that his brother was killed during the battle of Kurile. The Seven Decrees emphasizes honor and discipline on the battlefield. Alliance members are welcome to take any contract that comes their way but it is required that they weight these against morality. In addition, when a Black Knight meets another on the battlefield they are required to fight with honor regardless of their current requirements of their contract. The code is, in some respects become a religion in and of its self and members of the Black Knight Alliance strictly, almost fanatically enforce it.
The Third Chapter of the Black Knight Alliance began with acquisition of the Alis Sabre and the mechanized armor workshop on planet Tangier. The Alis Sabre was originally on the prototype ship for the current liberty cruiser, however it is not clear where the ship was originally built. This has caused some to suspect that an independent contractor built the Sabre as Liberty has no record of such a ship ever being constructed. The exact full history of the sip may never be fully understood as Doshka won the ship during a high stakes game of chance on Freeport 9 and set out to convert it into a drop-ship. Shortly afterward Doshka was approached by an out-of-work, but brilliant engineer from New Berlin named Yidil Fleicher who offered to produce and manufacture new Mechs and other military equipment if Doshka could secure an industrial manufacturing complex. An abandoned Corsair settlement was eventually discovered on Tangier and was deemed as an ideal place to establish a Mech works.
Today, the Black Knight Alliance, while still small by military standards, has an excellent performance record for small and mid level military contracts and has continued to attract independent mercenaries. Analysts predict the faction will continue to grow in size over the next several years.
