So I was thumbing through infocards, working on this and that, when I came across some curious discrepancies. Intrigued I decided to pull out some of the more curious tidbits.
Age of Cryer Pharms:
Design doc date: 767 A.S.
Vanilla date: None given, but loosely defined as at least following 600 A.S. when various companies moved to Denver to begin their trade. Dates are provided showcasing groups, such as the Xenos, consuming Cryer anti-rad drugs following the date 710 A.S.
Synthpot date: 330 A.S.
Quote:Unfortunately, Alliance sleeper ships did not contain a single seed of marijuana. However, in 312 AS a previously unknown pharmaceutist and drug dealer Max Cryer from New Berlin, Rheinland created a new drug from a combination of local plants and synthetic components. The effect of the new drug resembled the effect of an ancient drug found on Earth before the exodus and known only from old books and encyclopedias. Therefore pills of new drug were called "synthetic marijuana". Cryer succeeded in forming secret agreements with leading pharmaceutical companies, and marijuana powder was added to many medicines in small dozes. This resulted in 400-600% sells increase for many medicines during only two years. At the same time, Cryer started to distribute the marijuana pills as an ordinary drug. Rheinland police soon found out the origin of new drug and put a stop to its mass production. They even caught Cryer, but at court were unable to prove his guilt. In 330 AS, 10 years after trial, Max Cryer used billions he earned on drug trade to found a new phamaceutical company in Liberty, known as Cryer Pharmaceuticals. Since then, synthetic marijuana became expensive and difficult to find, but it is known for sure that its production continues on some remote places away from House borders
So Cryer was started in 763 according to DA. Sometime between 600-710 according to Microsoft and 330 according to Igiss. Given that Cryer is described as a "A relatively new addition to the long line of Liberty companies, Cryer Pharmaceuticals is a promising young upstart." it seems questionable that they would be nearly 500 years old. Whoops.
Curious shipping practices: Whoops, don't let anyone read this card. Zomg Cryer can't ship stuff Q_Q
Quote:Cryer transports don't handle small shipments to police and military bases. We also don't go to Cortez or Magellan. So Universal, Gateway, and Orbital Spa perform distribution duties for us in this part of Sirius
Ever wonder who's building your cybernetics?
Quote:At Cryer, we feel your health is our top priority. Thats why were shipping our Pharmaceuticals throughout Sirius around the clock. From hypo-sprays to bionic eye replacements, Cryer is ensuring a healthier life for everyone.
Competition is for the weak. Ye.
Quote:Cryer is the sole Pharmaceutical producer remaining in the Sirius Sector. We closely guard our secrets here. We feel that we charge very reasonable prices for our products, given the lack of competition.
Not even Digital Anvil/Microsoft can figure out how Kusari politics work. I blame Zelot.
Quote:This is Outcast space, and any ships that come into this system better be welcomed by us. The GMG has been sending ships into our turf looking for Alien Organisms. Its no doubt they are working for Planetform or Samura, maybe even Cryer. When we catch them we kill them.
In the design docs it's known as Hauser-Scott Biopharmaceuticals
Quote:A large field of fine particulate matter. Atka Station, an outpost of Scott Pharmaceuticals, was constructed here to study the varieties of organic life found in the nebula
Just a few cute infocards I figured were worth sharing.
Cryer is allowed in Kusari, and is not considered by the Kusari government to be a liberty company, we prefer to note their base in Sigma 17, and consider them neighbors in the Simgas, much like the GMG.
Personally, whatever Microsoft says, isn't really canon to me anymore, unless they make a second game, which is highly unlikely. As we are part of Discovery, this is what I consider to be canon of the Freelancer Universe
Dream Theater - "Sabre120 and Jongleur officially win. That is all."
Not really a valid date, a LOT of changes were made since the original design process.
Quote: Vanilla date: None given, but loosely defined as at least following 600 A.S. when various companies moved to Denver to begin their trade.
Well Cryer's Headquarters are actually located on Manhatten, and they moved a lot of their operations to Denver at this point. It's not really an indicator of when they were started.
Quote:Synthpot date: 330 A.S.
So Cryer was started in 763 according to DA. Sometime between 600-710 according to Microsoft
again ^^ not true. Based on the monopoly Cryer has, I'm under the impression the synth marijuana date is to be most accurate. I actually thought synth pot was vanilla...

Very true, that doesn't make sense, but that sentence is in context of Ageira, Universal etc. so relatively, it's 300 years behind.

Well I don't think we do ship to Cortez or Magellan or take small shipments actually, so that's pretty accurate:P
I'll shed some light on one of those rumours. The one concerning GMG and AO's in Beta. We've RP'd that GMG harvests them and brings them to Okinawa for the terraforming on Miura there as well as future plans to increase the harvesting and begin exporting it out at prices that assures no competition (this is if GMG were to gain a strong enough foothold in Beta). But that's not all...we presently open the way for Cryer ships to harvest AO's as well and we will defend them diligently against OCs (Sorry Cryer guys, it's summertime and it's tough getting my guys active but whether we make it through summer as an official faction or not be sure that we will climb back again when school starts and the new mod appears). Indeed GMG| is quite fond of Cryer Pharmaceuticals in Sigma 17, so much so that if you look at their roster for Board of Directors you'll note a familiar persona on there ;). In conclusion it's a fair bet that behind that rumour the real story is that GMG isn't working for Planetform, Samura or Cryer (indeed I have never seen even the tiniest bit of a hint that GMG ever worked for anybody but themselves for 600 years when they left Honshu but there are tons of info of others working for GMG under a GMG contract or worked alongside GMG on a joint operation) and instead is co-operating with Cryer by not just opening the path to Beta and allowing them with open arms but also protecting them as well. With a Guild Master sitting on the Cryer Board you can expect some motives behind this co-operation and that GMG stands to gain a bit if new Cryer ventures prove fruitfull.
