As far as i know Doom is working on a Rheinland Liner for the Chancellors, Daumanns and Kruegers. So there is no need for you to make a redundant model.
Use this time to finish your current models (textures, CMP, MAT and SUR files).
Additionally you can learn, how to make your own Shippack Mod for FLMM.
As i have started with modelling my thoughts were like yours. I have made a lot of models very fast and there are tons of projects left for myself too. Not all of them are for Disco, but i have slowed down my model output. Now i'm looking for more accuracy, when modelling new ships. Also there is a lot to learn about textures.
Back to topic. Repair guns are a kind of cheating, as long as they don't need Nanobots. So if your Hull gots damaged in combat you have to pay for the repair. Also it would fit better with RP, when your damaged ship would be out of service for a while.
Don't underestimate the SUR files. Most modelers are using existing original SUR files, updated and resized to work for their models. To make custom SUR files is very hard and if you do something wrong, you will get many possible corruptions, especially with the shape of this model.
Develop your model, but forget the idea to make it a ship fully functional as a shipyard. Therefore the model might be implemented as an unmovable station like all others.
For custom stations a lot more work is necessary, than ships.
Sorry for taking away some illusions, but you can proof me wrong, if you will be able to manage the whole stuff.
yes..i work on that RH liner...model is half finished and i hope of posting first pictures for everybody to evaluate next week...
since we have enough time till next mod release we will together optimize that ship to perfection...
and i agree with AoM....i learn new stuff about modeling ships for FL every day. And each model i make it better then one before it (technically)...i learned how to avoid most bugs and i will attempt to make ships with wireframe...
hum, AoM, I wasnt thinking of that ship as something you could dock on while being flyable. Just something you could RP with, without necesarly selling out things.
And yeah, I know what you mean by producing a lot, you should have seen my first year of 3D modelling: nearly 5 ships per day (!)
I now take much more time, a complexe model could take me a whole week, but usually, fighters and the like, I can do it one day not much of a problem.
I'm also trying to learn how to do texture. And when I'll really have a lot of time on my hand - say, december vacation? I'll try to learn how to put ships in the mod myself.
