I think the question that should be raised here is:
How is this helpful to anyone anywhere in terms of Roleplay and Fairplay?

Agreed. I'm against adding things for the sake of having them. I'm not sure if this would be worth the effort that it would take to code, if it's even possible.

I'd like to have target tracking turrets in the game, the NPC capital ships/stations already do it, so I was wondering how difficult it would be to have a command that switches turret tracking on/off for players with ships that have turrets.
At least the rear turret that so many fighters have wouldn't be useless anymore.
However, as Disparagessence said, there are other more important things to be sorted first and I unfortunately don't have the skills needed to do that sort of modding.
so, the pirate would see two of you, and then have to make a decision as to which one he wants to chase?
pirate: Yarr, he be deploying a holographic decoy. *shoots cruise disruptor*
Cruise disruptor passes right through the hologram, and hits your ship, halting you
pirate: Yarr, stay where you are laddie
