aaand....another one. that one is inspired by one of the Dreamfall liners, too. its rather supposed to be an aeroplane and not really a spaceship. - i gave it a stronger freelancer look, but its still not too much freelancerish. ( mostly due to its wings )
imo, it looks like something fast - and the tail isn t really perfect... when it comes to the general shape.
like the other liner model, that one is a LOW detail one. my major thought when doing it was to stay below 5000 polygons. and that one has 3500 only. ( so there would be room for plenty of details more )
i m thinking of adding gothical cathedral elements to it ... or if its supposed to be a more modern liner.. add more streamline features to it. ( the thrusters are the 2 tubes on its top wings - well, i guess i should mount them more parallel to the mainframe.... )
stats: 3500 polygons, 1 hour work - so rather a sketch
anyway - just another concept.. enjoy:)
edit: thats what i used when i modelled it ... :
figured that freelancer ships are not featuring such long wings.... but i think i ll still gonne use the body shape for another model
That i call progress in work, i like it:)Just i dont like those tubes
Anyway i have found good milkshape tutorials, from basic modeling to texturing, so if someone wants it send me PM
yea - in the original versions ( the dreamfall cutscenes ) those 2 engines upwards are propellerengines and its not a real spaceship, but a passenger aeroplane that is flying closely over the surface of the water. ( thats why they are mounted upwards )
but i think i ll modify it a little. right now, i ll try to make a model that does look freelancerish enough, but still looks like a modern version of the current liners. ( might be bigger ) - it should be a mixture between a big liner and a good weapon loadout. ( sort of what a civilian capship would be.. cause civilians won t need a real capital ship, but rather one that is bound to a specific purpose. when it comes to heavy armor and weapons, the only cargoload i can think of is humans. )
i think now that i figured out more of the milkshape mechanics/features, i d be able to make the first model with less than 6000 polygons ( instead of the 35.000 )
anyway, i m just putting rough models into that thread to see what you guys think of them ( they re all not really "final" ) - once one of them has a general positive effect on the community, i can start to really work it out.
when it comes to design, i m thinking of a liner that shares certain bretonian elements ( like the gothic architecture ) along with the sleek and streamlined features of liberty. but it should look like an advanced version of the current liners - so it ll be bigger in size, but maybe not when it comes to a logical cargo load. it should just look a bit more sophisticated.
@ Jinx: I think you don't need any lessons, advices and suggestions in the matter of design. Thats why i have not posted til now.
All of them are very nice models. They just need a bit of finishing in detail. As you have said by yourself, they are not finished yet and are rather concepts atm.
I will give you an advice in a technical aspect. Keep in mind every face will be visible in-game only from one side. The other side will remain invisible. Means you can look through. In Milkshape the visible side is marked silver and the invisible side is marked black. So take care no black side of a face is pointing outside and you have every black side of a face covered to avoit invisibility in-game.
but since i d be a post spammer when i just answered like that - i ll say ... good to know !
i just figured out how to make tubes and "carve" out of fixed forms - i was aswell able to remodel that first ( 35k poly ) model with faces - and it now only has 6000 polygons. but i m working on another model atm. ( only 23 days left for the trial, gotto be quick ! ) ... maybe i ll buy milkshape even, i like it m uch better than Gmax, which appears to have many features, but is a lot harder to work with ( or so i feel about it )
If you just want to make models for Freelancer, Milkshape does the job. Also because of the FL exporter and importer plug ins, you need to create a working FL model. So i think to spend 25 bucks for a MS license is to afford i recommend.
If you are interested in 3d modelling in general, you need another program, because MS is for Low Poly models only. 15.000 - 20.000 polys at the maximum to avoid crashes.
For high poly models you will need the very expansive 3DS max, the cheaper Autodesk Maya or Blender, which is the best freeware 3d modelling program, but very difficult to learn.
There is a link for Blender. In the gallery you can see what is possible with this program.
Whoa, looks like some kinda, Inquisition cruise or something, with the Gothic windows. It could also looks like a missile, with some big engines on it.
Good job though, I'm just having trouble as to what faction would get it. My first guess would be a Rheinland Liner....
