I have them, and I've never been able to figure out how things work. It seems like they're really cool, but the learning curve is incredibly large and there isn't much help in game.

A case of where you have to read the manual. I dithered abut with the demo and I am contemplating DLing them. Took me forever to learn how to make my damn ship work...

X3: Reunion is fun once you get well established... of course getting there takes a long time. I ended up using the scripts and downloading saved games just to experience the capital ship fighting. Graphics looks nice and the scale is pretty sweet. Isn't Terran Conflict a stand-alone expansion from Reunion? If so, I'd just go for Terran Conflict.
Terran Conflict is a must, it's everything Reunion should have been. Getting started is a bit slow, and occasionally painful, but once you get the hang of the game mechanics it becomes an absolute blast. Terran Conflict isn't as bad as Reunion, as the Terran vessels and weapons are pretty powerful; your M4 should serve you will in the beginning.
You can try to capture ships to sell them, and running patrol and/or assassination missions is a good way to earn some solid money. I would highly recommend saving up for a Terran Katana (the M6 vessel) and outfitting it with M/AM Launchers. Ammo for them may seem hard to come by, but each unit gives you around 200 rounds; you won't have to worry about energy management with them, and their continuous rate of fire will even allow you to take down M2s without much a problem (as long as you take advantage of strafing).
Maybe some day, they'll see a hero is just a man who knowshe's free.
Looking back at these two games, I think I'll buy them physically than digitally... I mean Edison H Trent!! 10GB for Terran Conflict base?! If I had unlimited bandwidth, sure... but I don't.
These games look vastly complex to me, I couldn't really get into X2 due to the complexity and sheer learning curve. But I'll hunt around online for a few copies see what I turn up before wasting £30 for new ones.
I tried, and had someone from here helping me via Skype with Terran Conflict for a while, but I got bored. Even with the time-folding engine or w/e they call the speedy-up device, it can still take 10-20 minutes to get from the edge of one system to another. >.>
"Things will not calm down, Daniel Jackson. They will, in fact, calm up."
Their is a demo of X3 out. I would try that before spending money and bandwidth.
I couldn't personally play it, tutorial isn't too great and just couldn't get conformable playing it.
I loved the original - Whacked Paranid Freighters near Aladna's Hill (I think thats the name) and sometimes they'd bail out, leaving me their nice transports. Eventually build up an entire empire and overtook all of the Argon sectors past that Xenon sector...Omicron something or another? Haven't played in a while but I remember not playing it for a while because I didn't have a clue what all the commands were.
Terran conflict's even better than the first X3 - More ships and more stuff. Less nasty interface as well.
