Hi,

I feel some of you are interested in a system where factions need to import goods in order to survive.
I began to present this idea in the [A] topic (faction subforum) but this discussion has been closed (anyway it was not the place to talk about this).

We were talking about amount of food required by corsairs. I've checked the information on the disco-wiki and most of corsairs bases have an unknown population (including planete Crete). Therefore it become hard to make an estimation of the amount of food required by corsairs.

Beyond food, i think all commodities could be involved in a trade balance. Amount of required commodities could be established for each base/station/planet/etc. according to local population (estimated or from wiki) and to the list of imported good (wiki data).

On that basis, I've calculated the amount of goods required by each base of my faction and designed new routes for each base to provide these goods and maintain a reasonable profit for the trader. Of course in a such trade system, traders will earn less credits because transporting water or oxygen is not really profitable. However I think it could improve the roleplay on the server because traders would have a real objective in supplying stations and designed routes would make more sens.

If this trade system would be involved in the official rules it think it would give a new dimension to the freelancer discovery game.

Just tell me what you think about this.

So people wont do it.

A dynamic economy might solve this, but I think its too complex to implement.

HOLY CRAP..... DID YOU JUST SAY SOMETHING INTELLIGENT????????????????

Anyways forcing people to trade certain goods makes the game even more tedious than it is. There are some things that should be left to the imagination of players and left up to the Devs and Igsiss.

Moebus isn't suggesting we should force players to follow specific trade routes, he's merely awarding those who pay attention to current situations and political developments.

I'd like a dynamic econmy very much, it makes trading much more interesting compared to those same routes over and over again.

How about roleplaying the dynamic economy with others that do and simply producing consequences to the "shortage" of anything?

ie. shortage of the cardamine to the liberty would surely cause LR to move to Malta and haul them on their own, lower relations with the Outcasts. Short supply of blood diamonds moved from Rheinland to Liberty by junkers would surely cause Hessians to lose cash and strike at junker convoys to remedy that etc etc.

In fact, if you can raise your head over the cash dilemma limit, then you can for instance offer commodities delivery to customers Sirius-wide. You do know that fake cash isnt that important.. maybe you do , maybe you don't.

Yes, i do not intend to force anyone to do anything, i am just proposing something to encourage traders to supply bases instead of just making cash (powertrader). However, it is true that powertraders will always exist, and I don't have problem with that (at least until server laws are respected), it s a part of reality.

I also like the idea of consequences as illustrated by OMG Ivan.

About dynamic economy I have some knowledge in economic modelling and I think it won't be really difficult to change prices of commodities according to offer and demand.

There's too many variables to pull off to have a constant changing economy system. There were few events ™ that occurred in the game, such as Crete paying a lot more for food due the news event.

There was something in Liberty when water supply was short, and I think VIP and Passengers were yielding increased profits in New Tokyo when Kishiro held science and technology expo there.

Those are the things that can be done (in agreement with Admins) and can be quite fun. People are usually blind and they do not see further from the "obvious profit". That is why you have posts like "where do I sell the ore, Narita is shooting at me" etc etc.

The thing is. If you're helping a faction in rp, they're pretty much obliged to at least tolerate you in rp, even if you're the biggest glutteus-hole there is out there. Or they are the ones breaking the game rules.

I think the problem is not that the Zoners dont know how much food to bring to the Corsairs. In my very long time as a corsair player, I can probably count on one hand the number of times Zoner convoys have brought food to Crete, with the exception of an event that made it really profitable, on one hand. Thats maybe 5 times in the last 3+ years. Start by bringing *some* food first and then worry about how much after that.
Part of the problem is that they have made themselves expendable to the Corsairs. Sure, inrp the Zoners are supposed to be bringing food to the Corsairs, but when the Corsair players never see it, what are they supposed to think? Add to that, every time someone comes to the Corsairs and says "we want to be freinds" the response is pretty much the same...bring us food. Thats why you see a large assortment of people brining food to the Corsairs, from the FA and Hogosha, to Samura and the IND, to the Reavers and Junkers.
It makes it hard to match the rp that is supposed to be going on, with what is seen in game, and to be perfectly honest about it, the only people at fault for that are the Zoners. If you want to depend on the rp of delivering food to the Corsairs to keep your diplomacy with them, you actually have to...you know..bring them food. Honestly, numbers arent as important as starting to see whales full of food heading for Crete.

If I were a cynical person, I would suggest that the reason Zoners dont transport food to Crete is that its not a high profit run, which would make me think the Zoners cared more about powertrading than playing the rp of their faction.

I'm not sure what the big fuss over food is all about.

Vanilla lore barely mentions anything about Zoners surviving due to their food shipment deliveries. If anything, the most important shipment that Zoners provide to Corsairs is Pharmaceuticals from Atka.

I'm not sure why everybody has been jumping on the food wagon instead of say, the Pharmaceuticals wagon.
