Rachael stood in Biodome 4 in Freeport 9. Looking out, to the eternal sunrise of Omicron Theta, and to the stars beyond.
"The last of the food has been loaded. We're ready, Rachael."
Rachael picked up her communicator to respond, "Very well. Begin in thirty seconds."
She took one last look out of the biodome, then headed past the bulkhead into the corridor.
The plan was simple, learned during her time as a member of the Green Front. First, the biodomes are isolated from the rest of the station, then radioisotopes are injected into the atmospheric supply lines. Easily obtained, produced as waste onboard all large ship and station reactors. The long half-life of the isotopes would ensure that the biodome would be unusable for hundreds of years. No amount of cleaning could remove the hazard, once it had been abosorbed into the alloys of the biodome itself.
Then, small explosive charges at the bulkhead separates the dome from the rest of the station, giving it a gentle push away. The third stage was the most important, at least for Rachael. Automated thrusters had been attached to the base of the dome, the same as those found on ships throughout Sirius. A timed retrograde burn from the thrusters slows the structure down, and destabilises its orbit around the nearby star. The biodomes will burn up in the star, a safe, and permanent solution.
"Three... Two... One... Do it."
The sounds of the explosives could be heard throughout the station. Rachael watched the biodomes slowly drift away, and then sharply change direction. It was done. She called Freeport 15 on her communicator.
"We are done here, how are things there?" She waited a few moments for the transmission to reach the distant station and return. "All of the biodomes here have been destroyed as planned."
"Then it is done."
With that she headed to her personal ship and set off into space once more.
