I'm putting two things here. TCG and myself, Kitty Hawk, that's an LNS gunboat.
If I remember correctly, TCG used to be order, got FR5d, and proceeded to use their order IDs and order technology.
Now Kitty Hawk got FR5d by the Navy, and I proceeded to use the ship along with the LN ID and a junker IFF I acquired manually by also fixing my reputation with coorporations and the like. Now an Admin PMd me, saying I had to change my ship and ID. Why? Because I was hostile with the Liberty Navy and had a junker IFF.
After talking to him for a while, he raised the argument of me shooting Navy. So I shot Navy in forms of self defense seeing as my ship was KoS in Liberty, shouldn't be anything wrong with that. Then ship stealing came to question. I was FR5d, thus dismissed from the Navy, and therefore when I'm not selling my ship, I'm stealing it. How can you steal that what has been given to you before, and when someone wants it back, you keep it. How's that stealing?
So what exactly am I doing wrong here and TCG isn't?
As long as he has good RP for why the crew would go with him, I dont see whay he shouldent be able to keep a ship he bought and RPed in fro two months.
The thing is, this is the sort of scenario where role-play is irrelevant because the rules trump. Make up any story you like for having that gunboat, but unless you get explicit permission from a faction leader to use it, you really do have no choice but to either sell it, fix the ID and reputation (maybe name too) or keep it grounded.
The way i saw it, is that the TCG were kind of a splinter group to the Order and having a lot of other
members to help rebuild their crafts with their secret sources, and the FR5 could have been a ploy for
the Order at the time as they sorted it all out in the end. But the LN aint such a faction, your LN ship
belongs to the state as i see it.

And if the captain chooses not to relinquish the ship the state will have to pry it from his cold dead hands...

the apocalypse turned hostile to the BHG - and the admins made it so that they would really "loose" their ships when they got destroyed ( that is permanently loose the ships ) - it was not applied directly though - but after a long process and argument.
the RP justification however was clear "you cannot repair your ships anymore and no one but the BHG can do it - so when you get destroyed, you re boned".
other precidents go differently though. - ppl were allowed to RP it out ( as long as the situation had a chance to relax ) - permanently "leaving" the parent faction though is like a corsair defecting to the outcasts - he cannot keep his titan + tizonas, no matter what.
the big difference is: if both sides try to get together again in RP - and the hostility is but temporary - you can usually keep the stuff with RP consequences - when you re past that state and you become permanently hostile - you better change the gear.
