OK, I'm a Liberty Rogue and I have been called scum, a heartless criminal, a blight on society and various other names (and I freely admit that I am a smuggler, though not a pirate and have never demanded either credits or cargo from anyone). However, no-one has never been able to question either my honour, or my sense of fairplay. Yet it is with deep regret that I have to admit that despite all the cowardly, untrustworthy, backstabbing scum I have come across in my smuggling career, I have never until now realised that that the Liberty Navy belongs deep down in that stinking cesspool of putrescent effluent. I had until recently thought them to be men and women who followed an honourable calling and served with dedication and bravery. Alas my eyes have been opened to the truth and what a sad thing it is to lose one's illusions.
I was flying through California this evening, not even smuggling as I had an empty hold and was just flying to a safe base where I could set down and spend a relaxing evening and maybe have a drink or two with a lady of negotiable affection (wink, wink). When I came across a strange grouping just off the tradelane near the New York jumpgate. Two Liberty Rogue fighters were holding a conversation with two Liberty Navy ships, a very polite conversation. Intrigued, I slowed to a stop and drifted nearby as they appeared to agree to an honourable duel, two against two. As the duel commenced, I stayed close by to observe but did not become involved as I was neither invited ( and to have joined the fight making it three against two would have been dishonourable in the circumstances) and as I was flying a freighter, I was not equipped for such a combat.
The duel had been in progress for some five minutes or so with the combatants showing commendable skills, when I noticed that several other Liberty Navy ships began to arrive on the scene. At first I was concerned that what was presently an evenly matched duel would rapidly degenerate into a one-sided free-for-all, but I worried needlessly as they merely drifted to a stop and observed the combat as I did. Finally, the urge to seek out some charming female company and relax with a drink or two overcame my curiosity as to how the combat would resolve itself and I started to slowly leave the area. That was when it happened. I had only just stared to move under impulse power and had barely reached a speed of 50 kph or so when one of the Liberty Gunboats showed his true colours, the filthy coward shot me in the back!
Remember that I was flying a freighter unsuited to combat with even a frontline fighter, let alone a gunboat!
Remember that I am proceeding slowly away from the combat, that I had not been involved in that combat and that the gunboat had drifted close by my ship for several minutes before it decided to attack me, without giving any intimation of aggressive behaviour!
Remember that he did not even have the common decency to challenge me, ask me to stop or demand my surrender. In fact his cowardice apparently choked him so badly, that it seems he was totally unable to even speak to me!
Remember also that he did not have the courage to face a lightly armed freighter, that he could only shoot me in the back like the cowardly cur he is!
Oh brave hero of the Liberty Navy that you are, I hope that you get the medal that you so richly deserve for your honourable actions and the bravery you showed in tackling such a frightening opponent as I was. Might I perhaps suggest that the medal should display a pair of knocking knees and be mounted on a yellow ribbon, to demonstrate to all and sundery what a great hero you are, in the finest traditions of of Liberty's proud Armed Services!
I come to you with nothing but a simple question...
Are you one of those smuglers that work for the outcasts and spread a degenerative drug enslaving billions of poor souls to a life of oppression and dependance... or are you one of those smuglers that traffic the very goods that fund terrorist organisations founded with no goal other than to bring death and destruction upon others?
I am neither my friend, I deal only in such substances and luxuries that would be welcomed by people of refinement if they were allowed to buy such things. If only Liberty were really a free economy that is.
