Man, I've always been a pretty big history buff, and a big fan of Heavy Metal. But recently my friend showed me three songs from a band called "Iced Earth". Each song is about 10 minutes long, and each one tells a part of the story of the battle of Gettysburg. I was simply blown away, it's a powerful epic and just thought I would share it in case anyone else fancys a listen.

I know Iced Earth don't listen it too much, but it's pretty cool yeah. As for the length of the songs, I am not that surprised I even have songs that are 25 minutes.
Oh and if you like Iced Earth, try listen to Demons & Wizards! It has the guitar player of Iced Earth and the vocalist of Blind Guardian.

Yeah, I use to listen to Demons & Wizards all the time, never knew that though.
But man, this song hits me every time. The 50 man orchestra in the background, just thinking about the battle and the song in combination. Simply a masterpiece.
Avantasia does a song the Seven Angels thats almost 30 minutes long, it's another really good song.
Contemporary, is a very broad word with many definitions dealing with art, specifically musical art.
So, I'm not sure what you got out of it, or on the other hand did not get out of it. It's obvious many people have many different tastes, and you don't seem to be the kind of person who would be interested in some classic Power Metal.
Best Iced Earth albums are Dark Saga and Something Wicked This Way Comes. Rest... medicore at best.
Iced Earth is a band that managed to consume lots of talented artists by having a single vision of music. Its more like a one man project looking like a band. Jon Shaffer is Iced Earth which kinda limits its potential.
However, I am always in ave to Something Wicked... and Dark Saga.
Since I am not just a fan of overly long songs, such as for example a Dream Theater, it seems to me that they had only one song that contains the entire album, but I do not remember just who it was, but here may be this:
