I work as a telemarketer now. Company, services, does not matter right now, but I found some youtube videos quite funny, representing strange things that -can- (and do, indeed) happen in the telemarketer world. Anyway those are easy to find. Some that may be more difficult to find, and are quite useful:
Specific for the U.S.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwxOjQ5X4g0...feature=related
Specific for Spain: Demand under the LOPD (Ley Orgánica de Protección de Datos / Organic Law of Data Protection) your data to be removed from their database.
It's easier, safer, and more effective to just demand your data to not be used for promotional purposes basing your statement in your own country laws, than annoying someone who spends 6-10 hours per day calling people and talking without stop to earn a low salary. If you find a not professional telemarketer and they call you again, you can tell them you already said that, demand to be passed to one of the superiors of the telemarketer, and threat with a demand. Voilà , that company will not call you again.
Also, on another hand, remember that behind the phone line, there is a person. We do not harass you out on purpose, but because we're -forced- to insist, and insist, almost to the point of annoying the people. Otherwise we're evaluated poorly, and fired. Not a good thing in times of crisis, indeed! But probably the person who calls you wants to make that call as much as you want to receive it.
EDIT: I just failed... this was intended for "General Discussion". D'oh.
Consider your sins you commit as a telemarketer in the need of acquiring profit forgiven. You may go on with clean conscience.
Those souls that not just watch TV, but for any reason they don't even do everything in their power to switch channel when your show begins are lost already.

I have my secret for dealing with telemarketers but it shall not be revealed.
On the flip side, I tried that once for a living and failed miserably. I'm with Kishi, you have some patience.
"hi, i work for pinnacle double glazing. my home calls are forwarded to my mobile, so im at work now and really cant talk, but i have this great deal for you on double glazing, i mean really, these guys are giving this shizzle away, just to get the company up and running, to make it known. so, how about it? have you renovated your double glazing in the last ten years? cos the casements start to leak after a while, and they dont prevent heatloss"
they usually mutter something about not being able to talk about that during working hours.
thats when you say " well, shucks, just gimme your home number, and ill get someone to call you at home with details of our amazing offer"
they usually say something about not wanting to give out their number
thats when you say "so, what you're telling me is that you dont want to be cold-called at home by a telemarketer, no matter how good the offer is?"
thats when they usually say something like 'duhh...erp'
and you can finish with... "I know that telesales never works, but who needs to worry about it, cos they pay us money for nothing, its not like we generate any revenue for the company is it?"
I find hooking an old style analog modem and bursting whichever binary file is handy straight into the serial line, an appropriate response to most telemarketers. Incidentally, for those who work in callcenters that take incoming calls: Great way to deal with prank calls is to forward em to a fax line.

Don't get me wrong but I HATE telemarketing and their pushing. And no, I don't give my contact to them, it is bound to the contract you have with the phone company. They call 20 times a week. I am about to remove my phone from the line to prevent it.
