Anyway, after reading this thread and arguing on the side of the underdog slightly, I've changed my mind. I personally do no believe in the the idea of small independent traders getting the bigger transports.
However not everyone who uses that ID counts themselves as independent instead they've had to pick that ID because there's no other ID available for them to to create a new corporate faction. I had the same problem a while back with my old faction AIL. We settled on a BMM ID and BMM IFF. Which shoehorned us into the BMM identity when it came to other factions. Mollies would scream out "DAI!" (Despite my characters Molly sympathies) Mercenaries would yell out "BUNTY ON U!" Unsorted players would scream out "OMG! U BMM! U SHUD B MINING!"
Anyway I'll stop rambling.
I believe a corporate trader ID is in order for people who are looking to start themselves an actual corporation that they intend on making a medium sized business. So here we go.
Quote:Corporate trader ID
Pilot carrying this ID is an corporate trader, who :
Can trade and escort traders
Cannot attack anyone except in self defense or to defend the vessel they are escorting,
Cannot fulfill bounty contracts
Cannot pirate
Cannot land on unlawful bases without prior RP.
Allowed ships: Fighters, Freighters, Transports
This removes the cargo limitation and adds an RP limitation of landing on unlawful bases which will mean no power traders can actually use it and make money like they did with the old trader ID.
P.S: I'm aware of "Cargo limitation is getting removed" rumor but in the massive piranha frenzy that is Discovery, rumors are best to be avoided.
Why make it complicated when you can actually work for a corporation? Independent Trader fits for small corporations, since they are, y'know, independent and not big mega-corporations.
EDIT: What I mean is that I do not believe that independent traders work alone, only that they do not work for one of the Corporation factions.

My first thought was to tell you if you want to be a corporate trader, then join a corporation. I understand your idea of creating your own company and the problems of trying to fit in to another ID. The problem with the ID as you've written it is there are no limitations. It's basically a go anywhere, fly anything, buy and sell anything permit. There's nothing to stop people from using that ID as an independent. You've go some good ideas there, but there's a lot that needs to be worked out.

The general idea is for people attempting to make larger corporations. The various corporations that have their own ID right now are meant to be the massive corporations that bring in the biggest revenue.
To use a real life "situation" (which I hate to do) where would Valve (pre-steam) be today if the smaller companies hadn't dragged their games to the shops and those shop companies hadn't have sold those games?
I still believe that if you wish to use Real Life Example, there would be a Microsoft ID, but Valve would still fit the parameters of Independent Traders.

The limitation is the inability to land on unlawful bases without concrete RP behind it. The best way (bar mining) nowadays is to smuggle through the embargo, sell the stuff on lawful bases, bring something from that base to an unlawful base. Buy cardamine/artifacts (whatever else) then shift them to another unlawful base and then the road goes on.
Simply put without the ability to land on unlawful bases, trading isn't as lucrative.

That's not a limitation. It will take you 5 minutes of forum RP to get around that.
