Basing a faction on nationality doesn't sound realistic to me..
You could always have a private group though but a faction as I said.. My opinion of course..
Yeah, I thought they were both Spanish too, but apparently Outcasts are Italian (Malta is an island off the coast of Italy, and if they were Spanish it would be named Barcelona or Madrid) and the Corsairs are Greek (same; Crete is an island off Greek that is currently, to my knowledge, either under the control or half-controlled by Greece).
Both the Outcasts and Corsairs are a mix of Italians, Spaniards, Sicilians, Greeks, etc. I'm pretty sure neither side isn't 'just' Italian or 'just' Greek, whatever name they stuck on their home planet. Don't know about anyone else, but Alejandro is of Spanish (and Japanese, due to his GC mother) descent.
I'm one-eighth Italian and I can speak a few words of it. I'm a fairly fluent Spanish speaker. I can communicate effectively enough that I managed to get back together with my tour group when I got separated from them in Assisi during a tour of northern Italy in 1989.

Mal: you might not want to call LoTek a baby, as he might have a temper tantrum because of it!:P
Well, Outcasts are "Italians of Sirius" in a way. Like, Mafia.
But Italian Mafia was dealing drugs only for a short time.
Much more effort in gambling and alcohol.
Most of them even despised the drugs, and absolutely few ever dared to try it.
While Outcasts are sniffing on every corner:P

It is every Corsair's responsibility to die a beautiful death in defense of Crete, regardless of how OORP or how capwhoring the opposition is. Launch your fighter, joust the battlecruisers and die a beautiful death. Then, drink it down in the bar.
Yeah, what was left of the Italians from the war on Sol ended up on the Hispania, as did most other Mediterranean folks. For the most part though, the Italians (and the French) were wiped out in a surprise attack by the Coalition at the start of Starlancer.
