Well one of the biggest ships in the Coalition fleet in Starlancer was called the Ramses, So I'm guessing they may have been thinking more middle-eastern Arabic.
And yeah, I don't think there is much doubt in that the Russian/Arab/Chinese Coalition is the result of some western stereotyping.
Quote:And in playing through the campaign, I don't believe I ever once heard or saw a single reference towards Communism, or the fact that the Coalition were Communist.
The pictures of Coalition ships from Starlancer that I've seen so far ( namely this one ) have red stars on them, which is usually associated with communism. In which case Starlancer used "show, not tell" to explain that the Coalition were communist.
The Coalition of Starlancer was not Communist. There's nothing saying it was Communist. In fact it's simply all of the nations that weren't included in the Western Sphere, probably banding together to present some kind of front to them. The insignia on the spacecraft were mostly Russian roundels, with the occasional Chinese roundel (yellow-lined with brackets). The nations actually included in the Coalition, as far as Starlancer explained, were Russia, the East Asian Union (with China), the Middle Eastern Confederation, and the Eastern Republic (Eastern Europe).

The Red star is the symbol of both the Chinese and Russian Armies, and not Communism.
They are still used by both nations after the fall of the USSR.
The only work around I can see is that the Coalition was something new... Communist ideas, but a different system to that of the Soviet Union... different ideas...
I have always seen KAtz as more of Lenin style of character anyway. Firm believer in the people and the party.
Now while idealistic, I know as a player the Coalition is anything but saintly. But there are those good people inside of it that want change... Thus the rather long rp stories we write about the turbulent times inside of it.
Every revolutionary has to make the transition from firebrand to politician.
