Derek was just leaving Sophie's bar on Newark station when he yelled back through the door, "Eh! Sophie! Save me a drink would ya? Just popping over to LA to visit some old friends." He launched from Newark heading towards the tradelane when he saw a ship in the distance, it was Admiral Christina Robinson. "Ooo, maybe I'll save that trip for later", Derek said. He thought he'd see if it was his lucky day, or not...
"Ah, a Female navy pilot eh? Always liked a girl with power." *I'll pretend I didn't hear that, Derek.* "Ah, C'mon baby. Ya know you like me. Ever had a run with the richest man in Sirius?" *I don't think I want a "run" with you with that's what you're alluding too.* "Don't think eh? I believe I can convince you. I've done it before."
The conversation was beginning to draw some attention, Bounty Hunters and other Navy pilot asking for permission to rid of Derek's ship. Jason Launders came up to the scene, |Watch you mouth, Mandel. And where my guns are pointed|. Derek was laughing at the fact of how much attention he was gathering. Christina spoke again;
*I don't think you can convince me, Derek. I have higher standards then the likes of you.* "Ooo, a little force then? Sounds like fun to me. Maybe a little run on the Liberty Carrier floor? You'd enjoy that eh?"
He heard it in Robinson's voice. The sound of anger and terror, he took it to far.
*Ok, that's it. Launders, arrest this man! Now!* "Arrest me?! For what? ... Trying to make a Navy pilots day?"
Launders began to move closer to his ship.
|Mandel, dock on Manhattan and stay there until forces on the surface take care of you.| "Ah fine! Be that way... Such lonely Navy pilots."
He was in trouble, still laughing at Robinson's reaction. Was well worth it in his opinion...
With Derek Mandel currently locked up on Manhattan, Admiral Christina sat, suited up, on the bed in her quarters. The lights were dimmed down and she began to reminisce on the events since her joining the Southern Alliance branch of the navy. Her high rank posting from the trainers corps on Westpoint, directly into the admiralty of the Southern Alliance. Almost at once, her thoughts skipped through her career, straight to the day before.
She swore, loudly, as she was reminded of Derek Mandel and his intensely sexual tone in Manhattan. "Having a run on the deck of the Carrier"?. What kind of way was that to speak to an Admiral, on public comm channels, anyway?!
"Some people these days could be so coarse!" She thought, as she slapped her thigh with her gloved hand.
Christina started to think of the other points of the short, sharp and pretty embarrassing conversation that took place that day. She remembered Fleet Admiral Woolsey, mentioning on private comms that this revolting character was his first cousin. How disgusting!
She had asked the Fleet Admiral to go by the book on this one. The punishment was a term of service on Sugarland, albeit short, for "verbal sexual assault on an officer of the navy on duty" as it was phrased in the book, the Liberty Code of Conduct.
However, Admiral Robinson was doubtful that her trust in Fleet Admiral Woolsey was well placed. First agreeing to her decision to exile the Temporarily Autonomous Zoners, then going behind her back, leaving her out of the loop to discuss certain aspects of the exile on Manhattan.
With this despicable character being related indirectly to Richard, what would he do? Go by the book? Christina knew she couldn't count on that.
As Christina thought of what to do, she removed her helmet and placed it besides herself on the bed. From this intense brainstorming, her mind eventually swayed back to Derek's words that day. Subconciously without the permission of the rest of her mind, she whispered.
"A run on the deck of a Liberty Carrier eh? Could be fun..."
Immediately she clasped her hands over her mouth and looked around, as if there was a spy cloaked inside her quarters with a recording instrument. After a good few minutes of searching her residence, she sighed with relief.
Quickly, she resumed her usual emotionless facade, shoved on her helmet, and exited her quarters, as if to leave what she had just whispered floating in the air.
To drown her thoughts and feelings in her work, as she had been doing for over fifteen years now.
Richard Woolsey was an honourable, noble and kind man. He had always been fair and kind to those around him, even tempered and willing to listen to anything. hardly anything phased him, after all he had made Fleet Admiral in record time. This however was different, something similar to your parents finding the broken crockery you'd hidden the Christmas prior.
The message blinked on screen again,
<<Arrested: Mandel, Derek. Charge: Blatant and unwanted advances on SA Admiral. Suspected of intoxication>>
Richard threw his head into his hands with such abruptness that he almost lost the very, very large scotch he had poured himself.
"Derek, why did you have to do this? Its just like the time you stole my rubber ducky!"
In reality the situations were nothing alike but it was the only memory of Derek that he could muster under the circumstances.
Oh, perhaps some explanation is in order. You see Derek Mandel is Richard Woolsey's second cousin, they hadn't seen each other in years and never spoke. Derek was what was essentially the black sheep of the family. He drank, drank some more and slept around, a lot. All while making more money than anyone should ever make, especially him.
"Derek, why do you always make such a mess wherever you go? Half of Rheinland already hates you! God knows how many children you have!"
Richard then realised he was yelling at a comm display that was, quite and utterly off line.
He decided to play the recording again, just to be sure. You know, positive it wasn't his kin that had attempted to bed Admiral Robinson while on deck....
"Ah, a Female navy pilot eh? Always liked a girl with power."
*I'll pretend I didn't hear that, Derek.*
"Ah, C'mon baby. Ya know you like me. Ever had a run with the richest man in Sirius?"
*I don't think I want a "run" with you with that's what you're alluding too.*
"Don't think eh? I believe I can convince you. I've done it before."
Once more, just so he was really positive. The sound of the recording moved backward and then began to play from the top as if reminiscent of a damned orchestral movement.
Yep, that was Derek. No question about it, he had been the same for as long as Richard had known him. Loud, obnoxious, sure of his abilities to bed anything with two legs and a beating heart. Richard and Derek really weren't all that much different. They liked the same things, drank the same drinks, slept with mostly the same women. Or at least the same type of woman.
Well, that settled it. If Richard didn't sort out this business Auntie Jen would have a fit at the next family reunion, and he would never get his rubber ducky back. With one swift movement Richard grabbed his coat from the wall and clicked the lights. Everything went dark.
As he walked to the transport shuttle he saw the headlines.
Derek’s ship was escorted to the ground on Planet Manhattan, where it was impounded and sent off to Newark. Derek however, was put in hand cuffs and was being shipped to a prison cell on Manhattan until his hearing.
He still had a smirk on his face from when he was in space, re running what was said through his mind, “Heh, she so wants me… This is just another one of her acts.” He looked over to the body guard and asked, “So, once we get there, do I get the pleasure of Christina frisking me herself?”
The guard grunted and continued to ignore him, he grinned and waited until his arrival.
***
He arrived at the station, stepping out of the transport and thrown in to a cell almost instantly. “EH! So is Robinson going to come visit it? Or you just gonna let me sit here?”
Another one of the guards walked over to him, *Did you really expect to bed Robinson?*
“Of course I did, it’s not like she could resist me. She’s just hiding behind her badge, and that… That… What was his name? Laundry? Lunders? … Umm, Launders! That was it… She only held back her feminine instincts because he was there watching. Just wait, I’ll get her alone in a room. Then things will be different.”
*Heh… You’re way to full of you self, Mandel. Way to full…* “Wait and see…”
Derek was enjoying himself believe it or not, the guards believing he couldn’t get lucky with Robinson… He continued telling stories on how right he was, until the wing leader walked in.
*Get away from his cell, guards! Don’t give him attention.*
Derek grinned as the wing leader walked in, the guards moving around back to their stations as if nothing happened.
*Mandel, Fleet Admiral Woosley is here to see you.*
He thought to himself, “Woosley”, he recognized the name, but hadn’t heard it in some time. And then, an average height, brown haired man in uniform walked in to his chambers looking at him straight in the eye.
Derek couldnt believe it at first, it had been years since he last saw his cousin. He never expected him to become the Fleet Admiral of the Southern Alliance. Hell, as kids they both had the same interests, Women. But it seems Richard improved from his old ways, but Derek still carrying them around.
*Well cousin Look what you got yourself in to this time.*
Richard? Richard Woosley? Damn you look old
*What do you mean I look old!? Im only two years older then you!*
I blame that uniform youre wearing
*Ya, you were never one to wear real clothes were you? *
Nah, never
There was a slight pause, and then Richard spoke again.
*So, you tried getting my first Admiral in bed did you?*
What? I was just trying to make her day! She sounded so strict over comms, just wanted to loosen her up.
*Ha! You havent changed one bit, Derek.*
Glad you agree.
*Anyway, I have a little information for you.*
How so?
Richard bent down closer to the cell so the guards at the door wouldnt hear.
*Ive managed to change the offenses against you, added a statement that you were drunk after launching from Newark.*
Drunk? Wow, you do know me to well.
*Dont interrupt! - Now, you will be sent to your hearing tomorrow to discuss what you will be charged with. And youll owe me big time for this, if were lucky it will be a fine and a big warning instead of time on Sugarland. But, youll have to act smart Robinson will be there.*
Oww, not going to let me try her again?
*Derek, I doubt youd be able to bed Robinson, even with your talents.*
Why not!? Ive been in this cell for two days and already have three girls lined up for me once I get outta here!
*Three? How the hell did you get three!? Not to mention how you communicated with them.*
Derek pointed towards a comm device he had been hiding under his bed.
*Where did you get that?*
Your guards are damn corrupt, eh. I said Id give em a couple of bucks and they let me borrow this.
*God damn It, Derek. You just dont stop do you?*
Richard began to look angry, but Derek cut in before he could say another word. Did I mention one of the girls friends would be stopping by for you?
*Huh?*
What? You said Id owe you big time didnt you? Well, now I have
*Derek You never cease to amaze me.*
Glad youre impressed.
Richards comm unit went off and he began to speak quickly.
*Damn Right, I have to get back in space, but listen up. Your hearing will be tomorrow, Ill be there along with Admiral Robinson. Anything with my name on it should get you out of here.*
Ha, alright.
*Mandel! Wake up! Your hearing begins in an hour, I suggest getting a move on.*
Derek had just been rudely woken up by the guard he bribed for his comm device. It was the day after Richard came to visit him, the day of his hearing when hed finally get out of his cell. He jumped out of bed and was escorted to a police vehicle outside the station that he would take to the hearing.
***
The hearing was bigger then he thought, several people were there just for a case of verbal sexual assault. Damn, Robinson really isnt happy with me., Derek said to himself. Before entering the hall, two girls were waiting outside the door and stopped him before going in. *Good luck, Master Derek.*, Rebecca and Victoria said as he walked in.
In the court room, Richard and Christina were there waiting for him. Derek gave Christina a little wink and continued to his seat, with Christina turning red in anger.
|Derek Mandel, you have been charged with verbal sexual assault of a Liberty Navy Admiral. What do you have to say for yourself?|
"Me? Verbal sexual assault? No, I wouldnt exactly call it that. But
Before he could continue, Richard pulled out a document and handed it to the judge.
|Whats this Woosley?|
*A report.*
The judge opened the document and began reading it outloud.
|After further investigation in to the case of Derek Mandels verbal sexual assault against Admiral Christina Robinson of the Southern Alliance, it has been proven that the defendant was drunk at the time when launching from Newark Station. Charges against him will result in a 5 million credit fine and a warning to never do it again, unless he wishes for a trip to Sugarland Signed, Fleet Admiral Richard Woosley.|
Christina gasped in how many lies were in the report, she walked over to and whispered in his ear,
*Are you nuts!? You know damn well he wasnt drunk! You You faked the report?! Richard how could*
Before she could continue the judge said loudly, |The defendant is cleared, case closed.|
Christina couldnt believe what she was hearing; she couldnt believe her own Fleet Admiral would fake a report to get his cousin out of jail. Richard walked over to Derek, *You owe me big time, Cousin Do you know how many strings I had to pull to keep you off Sugarland?*
I owe you now do I? Could of sworn I already mentioned I would give you something in return.
A girl had just walked in to the court room, Derek recognized her from when he was on his comm unit in his old cell. Her name was Ashley, a brunette with mid height walked in behind Richard and wrapped her arms around his neck, *I am here to follow your every wish, Master. Never to age, never to change, forever.*
Richard began to turn red in embarrassment, Told ya. Derek said as he walked out of the courtroom, laughing at Richards reaction. He was free from that jail cell, free from all of it! He paid his fine and requested for his Raven Claw to be shipped back to Planet Manhattan. No more than an hour later, Derek launched into space, Victoria and Rebecca giggling in the backseat. Damn, it was good to be free.
He opened his comm unit forwarding a single line to Admiral Robinson. Eh! Christina! Seya next time.
Admiral Robinson walked out of the courtroom block, gnashing her teeth, holding back the urge to go back and give Woolsey a kick in the crotch. The nerve of that man! He had given her his word that this one was by the book.
Now she felt ashamed, in front of everyone in that courtroom. All that effort she had put in to trying to put that abominable character in jail, erased at a stroke by Richard.
As she was walking aimlessly in the endless streets of planet Manhatten, she received a small voice message from the recently acquitted defendant. She scowled as the five second long recording played. The arrogance and disrespect lacing the voice shone through like broadsword slicing through a skull of a child. In a fit of rage, Christina threw down the communications device on the floor, and smashed her iron-clad foot on to it as it rebounded. The crunching crackles of circuit boards and optics breaking and shredding under her foot proved satisfactory, and she moved on.
Christina had never been able to cope with disrespect. When someone did, something bad usually happened to them. Woolsey, Mandel, her family, the list was growing all the time. Mandel, she could deal with. Her family, she had dealt with. But Woolsey was in a better position... She would put the incident behind her, or at least try to. Then, when his guard falls, it would hit him, as it hit countless people in the past.
