I am fairly new to the server and would like some quick clarification on the re-engagement rules.
I was on my way to New Berlin when a Oucast tagged ship was attacking a trader tagged player (can't remember the exact tag). He asked for assitance and the Outcast began to run, I chased him and he docked on Bonn station and then undocked right away as I was trying to type a message saying that the hostile had docked and shouldn't be a problem anymore (trying to RP it). Then all of the sudden he comes out while I am typing and blasts me. From the way I read the rules, first he shoudn't be docking there since he is Outcast tagged and second is this considered re-engaging? He ran and docked I guess to buy bats and bots not sure, he would not respond when I told him to hold fire.
I really don't care that I was blasted but I am confused on the rules. I did not expect to be attacked after he ran and docked like that.
Here is the rule
5.8 If a player engages cruise engine or docks during a PvP fight, this player is considered fleeing. The fleeing player must not enter the system where the fight took place with any of the characters on his/her account(s) while the enemy (player or players involved in the fight) remains in the system, but no more than 4 hours.
However, the fleeing player can re-engage at will if chased.
Thanks for clarification.
Edit -- after looking at the rule again he might have been ok to come out firing as I chased him. If this is the case I will not get caught typing like that again:) Getting stuck with your type screen up sitting still is really bad when your being shot.

Outcasts should not dock on an Interspace Commerce base.
If a player engages you then runs away and docks, then undocks and attacks you that is re-engagement.
If a player just ran away without fighting you then docks, then undocks and attacks theat within the rules as there can be no re-engagement as threre was no engagement with you in the first place.
Regardless of the 2 scaenarios above the Outcast made a OORP dock on Bonn station.
' Wrote:I've got a question too along similar lines.
I was in a fight in California today and I used my cruise engines to get some distance and a wider firing arc, but was still readily in the fight.
Is that considered a disengage?
As soon as you activate cruise in a Fire fight you have Disengaged... That means your dead, No really the same as if you where killed. And have to follow the Death Rules.
(And there are still people who don't know about the Death rules... Its 4 hours Cool off people)
Hope this Helps.
___ New Avatar.. Needs a Bit of cleaning (Damn, I forgot the transparent Background again) The Crateria is Unhappy. From now on if you think you can carry on trading after you've faced Death you SHALL Face him again, and again until it Sinks in! Come on, Traders need to Follow the 4 Hours Cool down after death.. So your dead, Whats that? Your going to get me with a Big Bad Cruiser? As long as it is NOT piloted by yourself let it come...

Thinks that sums up both incidents really ...

Just curious, but why are cruise engines considered dis-engaging every time? I mean in any battle, one would use anything at their disposal to win.
Same with the disengaging deal, retreat is a part of any battle. Run away, live to fight another day.. and all that. NPCs retreat all the time then re-engage.
What if you ran away, to lure the other player into a situation that favours you for the fight? or in larger battles, you attacked a defender, then lure them away from what they are defending while your allies sneak around and can hit the objective without worry of defenders?
Iâll carry this flag
To the grave if I must
Because itâs flag that I love
And a flag that I trust
anyway - just want to add - * no you are NOT dead when you run away! - we might wanne get away from that thought. when you DIE. you leave the system and you ll better avoid the guy that killed you, even if he goes to another system.
when you RETREAT however, you can well wait for your attacker in the next system, possibly with backup that time and you can engage him in this OTHER system - activly, not only in self defense. *
so, running away is not dieing - what d be the point of running then.

( not only can you come back to the system once the attacker left the system, but you can, if he follows you to the other system even re-engage him )
as opposed to
5.10 A player who was killed in a PvP fight must not re-engage the enemy (player or players involved in the death) with any of the characters on his/her account(s) for 4 hours.
( or other, you re dead, don t mess with the attacker in any way again for 4 hours )
