So I've been away from Disco for a long time, as you may have noticed. That is true.
The reason behind this is 1) I accidentally deleted my saved files folder while trying to download some new mods, and 2) I just haven't been able to be on in a while.
So the new thing I downloaded that took time away from when I could be re-building my foolishly lost ships (MY PERCHEROOOON D':)? Shattered Worlds: War-Torn. This mod is tiny compared to the more famous mods out there (Freelancer Universe, Crossfire, DIS ONE RITE HURR) but it's a very beautiful little mod. It's basically vanilla Freelancer with a handful of new ships and a graphic overhaul that leaves pretty much everything the same, and yet at the same time makes it all look very pretty and shiny, and I love it.
... On single player.
Multiplayer is a barren wasteland.
That's my stipulation: If you're willing to give War-torn a try, please please PLEASE bring some friends and join multiplayer. As it were there's only 3-7 people online at any given moment, which blows.
Just saying. If you want to, give it a shot.

EDIT: On a re-check, I realized that my characters were not, in fact, deleted. I'm just lazy and didn't think they were there. SOOOORYYY~

do any of the stingy buggers ever give me any?
are the sp npcs the original weak ones, or are they like 4.84, where trent and juno go on the lam, and the battleships pwn you during the cutscene?

First off, nobody ever said I was quitting, although this "stingy bugger" would be more than willing to give you a couple mill off-hand as a pity donation...
Single player NPCs... If you use, and are fairly adept at, most dogfighting techniques around today (e-kill turning, jousting, that kind of thing), the fights will be fairly difficult but not mind-numbingly, keyboard-bashingly impossible (which is why it took me two days to beat campaign instead of a few hours). NPC weapons are pretty merciless in terms of damage dealing, even strong shields will go down relatively quickly on anything below a fighter-class ship, so you have to be pretty good at dodging and evasive fighting to be successful.
Again, unless you're flying a superiority fighterght bomber with a nasty-ass shield and guns that would make an Osiris shy away in fear.
The complicated thing is that the standard LF/HF/VHF/Freighter classifications have been done away with and replaced with different specialisations. I'm not the best person to explain this, as I barely get it myself, but if you want to know more you can check out the mod's homepage at www.freelancer-swwt.com, and poke around the forums a bit. The community there is very small but quite helpful with anything that may arise.
Tried it once. When I saw "Rubber Duckies" as a commodity I decided that wasn't my thing.;)
Wide awake in a world that sleeps, enduring thoughts, enduring scenes. The knowledge of what is yet to come.
From a time when all seems lost, from a dead man to a world, without restraint, unafraid and free.
Mostly retired Discovery member. May still visit from time to time.
