I installed the mod yesterday, and have been playing singleplayer to pass time until I was validated on this forum. I've been reluctant to play multiplayer until I've introduced myself, but now I feel I can safely go ahead with multi.
With that out of the way, I hope that I fit in well here, and that we can all have a good time playing.
Now I just need to decide which faction I will go along with...
I recommend to play as independant, it's good to explore and see how people roleplay on the server. If you're really interested to join a player faction quickly, I recommend joining a house faction, something like RM/RFP LN/LPI or RepEx / Ageira / USI.
[Convoy] is an unofficial player faction, but they're good peeps, I guess you can ask there too.
Avoid Dublin at all costs, it will destroy your server experience, go there only when you have a good grasp of the rules, roleplay and how the server works.
I'll also recommend you to avoid Outcasts and CR, The Tau systems are pretty awful and some situations will likely disgust you and make you leave the server. Same as above, go there only you are prepared.
Good luck ! If you need any quick infos, [The_Angels] are here ingame from time to time to answer your questions.

Agreed on the Taus, they can be a bit hectic and merciless for new players. But Dublin isn't bad if you got the backing of a faction. IMG| is often out in force, and we back up our indies as long as they behave like IMG - try and recruit a few too. Dublin does however tend to see large group battles - jumping into one of those inexperienced will see you explode rather fast.
CR is indeed more for people who have gotten some experience at fighting, and enjoy fights. Can't speak for the Outcasts - they're an unlawful faction however.
