Is it technically possible to shut off the collision checks for NPCs entirely?
I was thinking that if they could just fly through you as if they were ghosts, it would be horrible irrealistic, but not much more horrible irrealistic than the way they always collide with you and your huge ship goes spinning as if it had no mass at all.
How come they can pass through rocks and asteroids? Maybe make same thing with player ships, you could still shoot them, but they couldn't ram you
NPCs fly on rails.. that is one of the reasons they can go through asteroids.. I dont know much about collision detection and hit-boxing though, so I shall refrain from commenting further.
Well, it's not just NPCs which bump big ships around.
It's everything, from little rocks, cargopieces, ship scrap (vanilla ships) to normal NPCs and other players...
Though it would fix the widest field of objects which bump you around, it won't fix the problem.
If already those guys that bump you while you are trying to enter a lane, that spin you around when you are mining, and that congest gates and are unable to avoid each other or get out of a traffic jam like a bunch of low-AI imbeciles stopped doing that, it would be great.
