Ok, I want a bonafied smuggling character.

I like the pirate train and the pirate transport, BUT....someone has told me that you cant use either of these chars to run drugs into planets like New Berlin or Manhatten. That it would not fit the "RP idea".

My question is this: Why would these ships not fit RP? At this point in time, I think its pretty safe to say that Ive established myself as a "bad" guy. I belong to a pirate faction, the ship will be tagged for that faction, and ID'd as a smuggler. Now, some of you may say that I am being foolish using a tagged char for smuggling, but hey....I love a good chase and a good challenge. So what gives discovery? Can we use these ships or not?

huh it's like as funny as to say criminals can't smuggle in undercover cars...
pirate trains, fine; real life exemple: the colombian drug dealers built some very custom boats to smuggle in cocaine in the states. Some have even been as ingenious as to build custom submarines smuggling vessels (small stuff, but it held some tons of cocaine in it)

But, why not hide the drug in your usual civilian transport of everyday? In star wars, there were smugling compartment, I'm sure it exists in real life: compartments hidden behind walls, floors, etc

Seems to me it makes more sense to smuggle in regular everyday vessels... That way you may be able to fool security...

With that said, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to do it on a pirate ship... It'll certainly call more attention, but that's really your problem.;)

I agree that it would be more intelligent to smuggle in a civilian ship, and lay low under the appearance of a trader. BUT, aside from my name, any pilot would have to be within 10k to ID my vessel, and to scan my cargo...just like those smugglers mentioned above...this ship will make "crash" runs through lawful security forces. It will not use trade lanes at all to avoid detection at all cost. This would be a true smuggling ship, one purpose and one purpose only. Running drugs to places your not supposed to run drugs. With a full hold to boot.

Pirate docking at Manhattan is a bit out of RP, but its way better than for every trader to be a Zoner in my opinion.

I trade with my Junker. In CSV. To Rochester. Make no money, but RP is quite fun... Planning on making a new trader though.

voted "yes" - allthough i am not a fan of limiting the generic IDs too much. just cause the generic IDs are somewhat unconvenient to deal with sometimes, doesn t mean they don t make sense in some cases. - i d leave it as a "suggestion" to use a cooperation ID ( like it is a suggestion to match the tag/rep table with the ID you use )

I vote yes.

You can't be arrested (or at leat you shouldn't be) for flying a dodgy looking ship. Although I think RM will certainly ban you from their space for flying certain ships. But that'll be done totally in RP, so you can only go with the flow on that one.

You can certainly be followed and monitored though. I think in the case of a smuggler, the tag represents the data that lawful factions have on you ie they know you have a questionable reputation, and have probably spotted you consorting with undesirables, but have insufficient proof to do you for it.

Personally, I'm not too keen on the smuggler ID. IMO a trader with an unlawful tag would be better.

The poll is not correct. Its not the ship. Its your TAG. globalplayersvk himself has posted in another thread, been advised by an admin to get Junker Tag, if he wants to smuggle contraband from unlawful bases to lawful bases, because beeing clearly unlawful and dock on lawful bases is considered oorp docking and may give a sanction.

If your char is a Junker he can use the ships of his preferation. The best would be of course Junker vessels, but they have no transports yet.
Personally i would like to see more other ships than the adv Train.

Yes, but agree with Simon that it's the destination in the system that counts. A pirate ship, carrying a smuggler ID and a load of illegal good, docking at the Manhattan mooring fixture would be like the above Columbian stealth boat sailing into the old New Orleans harbour and unloading right in front of US Customs agents. Nobody can tell you not to fly your pirate train through a jump hole to New York, but you need to be realistic about where it's going to be welcome once you get there. If you're bringing contraband into New York flying a suspicious white van then you've really gotta unload in Rochester or Buffalo.

Right...

The Pirate Transport is used for smuggling, whereas the Pirate Train, according to its infocard isn't. However, the infocard mentions that this is due to a lack of defenses, not how it looks, so if you're willing to take the risks associated with flying a train, smuggle away.

Oh, and on tags, see my signature.;)
