Roleplay I sat back and relaxed in my new leather armchair at my desk.
The sun was shining outside and there is a good view of the Manhattan space elevator base that took ships up to the dock ring.
Further to the left I could see the Transport depot that [KoF] were now leasing berth spaces from.
Universal had been very co-operative and supportive but it felt really good to be fully independant now.
In exchange for the use of Universal facilities and flying the Universal ID banner on our ships we were sub-contracting the most dangerous routes from them. This saved Universal money on insurance costs and ship repairs and maintenance as they continued with the easier, safer routes.
I was interrupted by Grace bringing in more paperwork to sign off.
"Grace ask the depot to warm up my Transport, I'm not sitting at a desk all day"
"I'll call the commodities office and see if they have any contracts available"
"Ok Chak" she replied "erm.. but what about these transit loggs and convoy rosters you need to sign off?"
"Ach I'll get them tomorrow" I replied.

[color=#FF9966]He woke with a start from his troubled sleep, it had been 3 days since he had slept well, 3 days since his world had changed. Not just his world to be honest it seemed like the whole universe had changed. Everything was familiar but somehow different. Lying here on the hard bed of a police cell he had plenty of time to reflect.
All was well until last Saturday afternoon, he had been carrying out prelaunch checks on his Starflier and had noticed a power fluctuation in the main power grid. Without waiting for some kid from maintenance to come over he had opened the access hatch and checked for loose connections. Pulling gently on the fibre optic cables he thought he had found the problem, a loose plug. Reaching in with both hands he tried to seperate the plugs to reconnect them. There was a cold blue flash and he was thrown 5 meters across the hangar.
When he came round he was in the med lab, his vision was blurred and his fingers were bandaged. The medic said his vision would reset in a couple of hours, they would like to keep him in for observation but needed the bed. There had been an explosion during a plasma transfer and there were some real emergencies in bound. The pilot was fitted with a pain relief implant and was signed off flying duties for a week. Great no offworld bonus this month.
On his release the pilot made his way back to the district where he lived using the cross town metro. To those around him he seemed to be operating on autopilot, just doing things by reflex taking little notice of people or where he was going. All the way he was struggling with his vision, it wasnt just blurred now it seemed as if it was overlaid with another image, similar but not quite the same. The Metro Car stopped and he made his way out of the station, walking along the wide streets to his apartment building. But it wasnt his apartment building.
Looking around he realised he wasnt sure where he was, he had obviously crossed the river and entered upper Manhattan, a better neighbourhood than he could afford. Why had he made his way here? He didnt know anyone in this district and certainly couldnt afford to live here. People were bustling along the sidewalk rushing past him but giving him a wide berth, the man stood as an island in a swirling stream of people. There he was in Upper Manhattan in his old flying suit looking like a beggar in comparison to the people and clothes around him. Off to his right was a park with seats and a street vendor selling Coffee and old fashioned papers and magazines. He headed there to try to get his bearings and figure out what the hell was going on. If only his vision would clear then at least he might be able to think straight.
He sat down on a bench and tried to take in his surroundings. The park was a fair size boundried by wide avenues and tall buildings. The air here was clean in comparison to his district, "I'll bet they dont have to call in the bug exterminators every month" he thought to himself. His gaze rested on a tall office block which he guessed was the head office of some megalithic company, but which one? Cryer? IC? Universal? it wasnt really important. "What about the KoF?" as the thought entered his head his vision shifted and seemed to come into focus. He saw himself in a KoF Senior Officers uniform and a feeling of familiarity for his surroundings washed over him. Instead of making him feel better a surge of panic welled up in his breast, he jumped quickly to his feet, the world span and he crashed to the floor unconscious.
Two patrolling officers from the local private security firm saw him go over, "God damn another drunk made it past the eye scan security" one cursed. "We had better send him to the lock up for transportation back to the city, c'mon" They tried to shake him awake to no avail, one searched the pockets of the prone man for ID. He found his wallet and checked the Pilots registration. "Says here he flies freelance for Synth foods, his ship name is the Intrepid" the two officers looked at each other and shook their heads, "pretty intrepid to be around here" one sneered "I'll bet he wont remember a thing tomorrow". The senior patrolman reached for his commlink "Alpha62 to control, can we have a vehicle to pick up a drunk from Jane Grey park, over" "Roger Alpha62 drunk tank on its way" replied the disembodied voice from control the two officers set him into the prone position properly and waited for the ship to arrive........

The Intrepid pilot snapped out of his reverie as the door swished open. A burly guard entered and looked at the dishevelled occupant of the cell. When he spoke it was tinged with sympathy for someone who appeared to be suffering from space sickness, you are free to go freelancer, the doc says you arent drunk so we cant detain you any longer. Raising himself from the bed he looked across the room, his vision was clear, perhaps the strange reaction he had suffered from the plasma shock had worn off. Time would soon tell if the odd effects he had been experiencing would return. Thanks sergeant, did he say anything else about me? Make any suggestions as to what caused the black out? the guard let out a snort hes not much of a doc, just a glorified medic who can only just do a blood test! the two men headed out of the cell and the pilots possessions were returned.
Leaving the Long Island Naval Security station he hailed a yellow cab 193rd street St. Albans he called to the driver as he got in, barely had he settled in his seat when the cab sped off, climbed 250 feet to the express way and joined the traffic heading back into the heart of the city. Below them the Hamptons sped by as the cab picked up speed. The day had been a bad one and he just wanted to get home and rest, his bandaged hands needed attention and his head ached. And he felt sick, not a little nauseous but that brain spinning mouth watering sick sensation after a night out with Scotty. Suddenly outside the cab there were Eagle Heavy fighters everywhere, filling his view, somewhere a computer voice was calling incoming missile detected the smell of melting super alloy filled his nostrils. The area outside the cockpit was full of strong purple flashes of weapons fire shields failed called the impassionate computer voice hull breach imminent then they were gone. He was sitting in the back of a cab again. What the hell was happening? What was that memory? Where had it come from? He was a freelance freight pilot he had never seen a battle let alone been in one. But it wasnt a memory it was more, a recollection or an experience yes thats it an experience. Then as suddenly as it started the sensation ended, he was sweating profusely but apart from that he felt better than he had in days, you ok back there buddy? came the unmistakeable drawl of a Yonkers City cab driver, Im fine thanks for asking, change of plan, I want to go to Rodenberry Launch pad whatever bub, your credits. The cab changed direction and the pilot settled back in his seat, he felt better now for some reason although god alone knew what he hoped to achieve when he got to the launch site. Why had he thought of Scotty when he felt ill? He had never been for a drink with his dog and he had passed away 3 years ago, man had it been a strange day. He closed his eyes and tried to recall the images of the cockpit he had been in, on the comms console he could make out some names Loki, Tsunami, Anvil, Mobius and Bill Riker. They were all amber or red in colour which seemed significant. There was a star chart open as well, Omega something, but testing himself like this was tiring, with his eyes closed he drifted off to sleep.
The rest of the trip passed without incident and he slept for a large part of the journey, he handed over his card to pay the cabbie and then headed to the Synth foods flight lines. There was his ship and no-one was near her, the inspection hatch was closed and there was the repair confirmation chip, she was good to go. His hand reached out to operate the access panel which is when he noticed the bandages were loose. Pulling on the end he unravelled his left hand bandage and was staggered to see it was healed. How was that possible? Perhaps this is all a dream and he would wake up soon, but in the meantime lets see where it leads. He entered his access code and boarded the ship.

[color=#FF9900]He approached the pilots seat with some trepidation and uncertainty, would he be allowed to fly again? There wasnt a medic in Liberty who was going to give him clearance after this. Maybe he should head to Bretonia, he had heard stories of there being a shortage of freighter pilots and Bowex wages were supposed to be among the highest. He smiled, the streets of New London were supposedly paved in gold, heck maybe he could even become Lord Mayor! He laughed out loud at the nod towards his childhood. He sat down in the pilots seat feeling reassured by the familiar surroundings, comfortable with the array of switches and dials. This ship had been good to him, dodging Liberty Rogues in the trade lanes, racing through the debris field with Bloodhoundagainst the Bloodhounds was surely what he meant, he didnt know anyone by that name, did he? God but his life had been messed up totally, earlier that day he had imagined himself as a KoF officer, Christ was that laughable or what. He had met one once in a bar on Pittsburgh, he had the air of confidence born from an organisation that valued their crews before profit, unlike Synth Foods where profit was the overriding motive.
Well there was no point in sitting here any longer, best to get it all over with, he started to get out of the seat and then froze, why not go to Bretonia, he had money not much but a little. And he was owed a favour by that Rogue pilot, Joel Walker, he had beamed aboard and released by the ruin of Ithaca Research Station. He sat down, buckled the harness and fired up the engines. What a sweet sound they made, it always filled him with a sense of adventure whenever he heard them fire up and felt the vibration through the space frame. he set a course for the orbital elevator and launched towards a new life.
He had been in the badlands now for two hours looking for Buffalo base, the few Rogues he had met were not in the mood to talk and he had been lucky to escape. His scanners had proved to be almost useless in this environment and it looked like he would have to give up his bid for freedom. Suddenly there was reading on his scan display, it was a ship sitting in space, it appeared lifeless. As he approached he could see from the radiation damage on the hull that it had been there a while, the ships ID chip was only just functioning, she was identifiedas the Flint. A quick scan showed there was still a cargo pod intact on board, Cardamine, and the weapons looked salvageable. Cardi went for good money back on Manhattan, maybe he would get enough for a new ship, and the weapons would resell nicely on the mercenary market. Transferring the cargo and weapons took next to no time and he set a course back toward Manhattan. Suddenly a Rogue ship appeared on scan, Well what have we here? came a tinny voice over the system chat, drop the cargo and you can be on your way. Oh damn just what he needed but perhaps this was an opportunity Wait, do you know Joel Walker? the pilot asked, an edge of fear creeping into his voice. Sure do, as its me. Why, whos asking? relief washed over the freelancer. Joel do you remember me? I rescued you from your escape pod, you said you owed me and would help me if ever I needed it, I could do with some help right now. What kind of help? Joel responded. "I need credits to get a ship so I can leave Liberty." They struck a deal over the cardi and weapons and set off on their separate paths, just remember freelancer, I will be chasing you tomorrow! But till then good luck. He had made nearly 40,000 credits from the transaction! He now had enough for a Rhino and maybe even a full cargo. He plotted course for Pittsburgh and got under way.
It was with a sense of immense relief when he escaped the badlands and got into the trade lane to West Point. He would feel even better on Pittsburghs launch pad with a new ship under him. The trip was uneventful and he arrived just as a large convoy set off from the planet. There were virtually no ships docked so he set down near the ship dealer. He knew they wouldnt take his ship in exchange as it was company property, but he hoped he had enough in credit form to get a ship. After a one sided exchange with the resellers droid he got his hands on a dodgy looking rhino. Satisfied it would actually fly he made his way to the commodity droid to get a cargo. There was a contract available for some Boron to a station called LD14 in Leeds. Here was his chance to get a decent life stake, why had he not done this before? He was now his own boss, with his own ship and a cargo. Hell that felt good. The droid had given him a course plot to Leeds so he launched from the planet and set off on his adventure.

His ship dropped out of the trade lane at Fort Bush and he decided to head out via Norfolk Shipyard, he didnt fancy passing Manhattan in case they were looking for him. As the lane acknowledged his access he tried to remember what he had seen earlier before he blacked out. The ship he had been flying was no Starflyer, it looked like.like an Eagle. He had only really heard about these ships, seen a squadron in the distance once but he had never sat in one. But there he was flying her like it was second nature, outside the cockpit space had appeared to be full of them. Several were trailing flames there was obviously a major battle going on. The comms channels were full of chat, someone had one on them they were calling for assistance. His hands flew across the weapons control panel and a Lancer missile had launched, before his eyes a ship had exploded in a massive fireball! On the proximity scanner had been a host of KoF tagged ships, and he was grouped with them. It seemed as if they were under pressure and being driven back, forced to retreat. The other ships around them were tagged USCF or something like that, he couldnt quite recall. The system they were in was definitely an Omega but which one he couldnt be sure. Perhaps there would be an answer in that system. The Omegas were near Bretonia, he had heard a Bowex pilot talking of them once. Once he had got some cash perhaps he could go take a look, he might need to pay for an escort! Access Denied came the cold voice of the ships computer and his Rhino came to a halt. He could barely see out of the cockpit, checking his sensors he was back in the Badlands, sitting outside a very rusty looking Jump Gate. It hadnt been used in years, probably some Military experiment. Why he was parked here was anyones guess and how had he got here was another mystery, he had better get out of there before any Rogues turned up. He reengaged the engines and backtracked to West Point and followed the waypoints to the California gate. He had better concentrate or he could really get in trouble!
The trip through to LD14 passed without further incident and while there met a Trader called Soldja who told him of a return cargo from Stokes to Newark. With the money he could make as a freelance trader maybe he would be set for life after all. Soldja even agreed to escort him back to Liberty. They ran the routes a few times and he was quickly able to upgrade to a Clydesdale freighter. They discussed life in general on those trips and on the odd occasion when he had his episodes he was able to form up on Soldja and take a break, no questions asked. At the end of these runs Soldja announced he was going to retire he had helped the Intrepid pilot raise 5,000,000 credits. Now he could get a decent ship and check out the Omega systems according to Soldja there were 9 in total, hopefully one may hold some answers. Finally here was his chance to sort out his life once and for all, he plotted a course back to Newark for one last run, he needed to arrange for cargo to Cambridge it seemed.
Docking on Pittsburgh he traded the Rhino in for a Trader and set out for Manhattan. Mooring the big ship on the Docking rig was easier than he thought the ship handled better than that Rheinland barge the Humpback although how he knew he couldnt be sure. Shaking his head he made his way to the commodities hook up and dialled the extension for a private trader, Bibby Distribution. I need a high profit low risk cargo to Cambridge he said. Hmmm I think I have the very thing, but I need an Intrepid pilot to carry something for me as well. The Trader must know who he was, why else make reference to his callsign? Who are you and what do you have? he asked. My name is Alastair Bibby, I need you to carry some software for me to my offices in Cambridge, in return I will offer you a very good price on some Luxury Goods, oh and Ill not mention that I have seen you to Synth Foods. They are looking for you throughout Liberty at the moment. Thinking quickly he realised he had little choice, and anyway how much risk was there in carrying a bit of software? Ok Mr. Bibby we have a deal. The cargo was swiftly transferred and he set off to Cambridge with barely a backward glance.
He arrived in Cambridge system with his nerves jangling, was this really the beginning of his life now? He certainly hoped so. The ship had handled really well on the journey and docked on the mooring tower with ease. The luxury Cons Goods were unloaded quickly and a small tug docked to take the software. He requested a star chart for the Omegas and set off to wards the nearest, and hopefully the safest one, Omega 3. As the jump gate opened before him his pulse rate quickened and he started to hyperventilate. There was a flash of white and the tunnel opened before him, he was now in the Omegas. Where to go? Now that was a question he looked at the star charts, he felt drawn to sector 4B, he couldnt explain it but the pull to go there was immense. He set a waypoint and engaged cruise engines. Suddenly the nausea started again, his head was swimming and the pain made him feel as if his head would explode, outside the cockpit the rocks faded out of focus, but it wasnt so much a lack of focus, it was more like there was two of everything just in slightly different locations. Almost as if two scenes in a film were trying to play over each other, even his cockpit was changing shape with different controls but all overlaid with each other. He tried to remain focused on his identity and it seemed to help, objective reached the computer intoned, he opened his eyes and there it was just outside the cockpit, a big white anomaly. The ship seemed to be being drawn into it and there appeared to be nothing he could do to stop it, he wasnt even sure if he wanted to!
As the front of the ship entered the anomaly a flood of memories seemed to pour into his mind. There was a convoy, heading from Cardiff Station to The Ring in NB, they had been ambushed in Omega 3 by the 2 squadrons of UCSF. The traders had taken the brunt of the attack as usual. Sythos was the first to be lost, her ship exploding in a giant fireball, quickly followed by Rhino. Anvil and Riz had managed to evade the initial onslaught. Now the fighters were taking a hammering, DaHengst took out two before his ship disintegrated he didnt even have chance to cry out. Orca was on fire and rammed a ship that had gone in pursuit of the freighters. Bloodhound, Riker, Sam and Jeff were all engaged in desperate dog fights, all the while being pushed away from the trade lanes and into the Ice fields. Shields were going down throughout the fleet, it appeared the UCSF had been developing new weapons on Malta, then came the computer calling incoming missile detected he was out of CMs, there was a loud thump and the smell of melting super alloy filled his nostrils. The area outside the cockpit was full of strong purple flashes of weapons fire shields failed called the impassionate computer voice hull breach imminent. He dodged and weaved as best he could, suddenly from nowhere a bright white light appeared before them, Dock, access granted he didnt remember requesting docking clearance. He looked at the console in front of him and most it was damaged. Outside the window what was left of the KoF fleet were all vanishing into the anomaly, he hit his thrusters and headed towards it, a UCSF Eagle reared up in front of him he didnt back off, do or die, he was now in a deadly game of chicken. The UCSF pilot couldnt bring the range down fat enough and quickly dived out of the way. Wing Leader Krayakin powered on into the bright light and hoped it would be the route to salvation and not further trouble. As his ship started to disappear a missile exploded just off is wing, the concussion of the explosion bounced his head of the side of the cockpit and he blacked out.
In the present Krayakin sat in his Trade vessel and cried with relief, he now knew who he was and where he had come from. The Jolt brought about a major Discovery, the anomaly was a military test, designed to open an alternative universe in case the Nomads ever returned. Now it had saved the KoF fleet, and he was one of their officers. My god where were they all? He checked the long range scanners, there was Bill Riker,
...Fzzt....Calling Commander Riker this ...fzzt...Wing Le....fzzt K...fzzt come in Riker......psst....
Hessian ships setting up interference....psst.....fzzzt....Need assis...psst....
There was no reply, he would have to try to get away from the jump hole, but his ship wouldnt move. And radiation levels seemed to be increasing. He would need rescuing pretty quickly, and whoever came had better have some Pharmas on board otherwise it would be a shortlived reunion.
Calling any KoF vessel this is WQFG LBJDOR Krmdogsn please respond.........

A further re structuring of our ranks is now required.
Jeff/Hauler/Comet and Mark/Krayakin have communicated that they will now enter retirement and will be active only here in our forums for the time being.
It is my hope that sometime in the future Jeff will come out of retirement and resume active service with the clan.
QUOTE
[KoF]-Orca will be considered to have rank as Senior Pilot until he decides to return to the clan and take up his Wing Leader rank again.
Orca has been active in clan duties again and we are happy to welcome him back to his rank of Wing Leader.
I also noticed that we have only one Depute wing leader just now, namely Bloodhound who is also active only in these forums for the time being.
After consulting with senior staff I have decided that John/Trekker will be promoted to the rank of Wing Leader.
This rank has a measure of Clan trust involved because Wing Leaders can recruit new members without consulting with Clan Leader Chakotay. I hope you will recruit new members wisely by only inviting Pilots who you think will enhance the growing good reputation of the clan.
A benefits package including a wage increase and pension enhancement and an apartment on Planet Curacao has been approved by high command for both of you.
John has now been enrolled at Manhattan University for studies in advanced Avionics, Navigation, Communication and Weapons systems and on completion of his studies will be recognised as QFI/QWI, which means Qualified flight instructor and Qualified weapons instructor. After completing his studies any new members can be directed towards John/Trekker for further training if the Clan Leader or any of the other Wing leaders are not available to conduct this training themselves.
I have great pleasure in thanking this excellent pilot for his service, loyalty and diligence to duty and congratulate him on achieving this promotion.
I have also decided that Tam/Drover will be promoted to the rank of Depute Wing Leader.
Tam has now been enrolled at Manhattan University for studies in advanced Avionics, Navigation, Communication and Weapons systems and on completion of his studies will be recognised as QFI/QWI, which means Qualified flight instructor and Qualified weapons instructor. After completing his studies any new members can be directed towards Tam/Drover for further training if the Clan Leader or Wing leaders are not available to conduct this training themselves.
This also means he can deputise as Wing Leader if [KoF]-Tsunami or [KoF]-Manatee or [KoF]Trekker are absent and will have security access to the senior staff boardroom.
An increased wages and pensions package and a time-share allocation on Planet Curacao have been approved by high command.
I have great pleasure in thanking this excellent pilot for his service, loyalty and diligence to duty and congratulate him on achieving this promotion.
Congratulations John and Tam
Promotions well earned
