Mining is gone for some time now and slowly effects begin to show.
I think I realized a significant drop in activity in many factions that were very busy before. In my opinion not only mining factions went down (that was easy to predict), but it had much bigger repercussions - even bigger than I had expected.
Example: I haven't seen much Reaver, LNH activity since the closure of Dublin, both factions are not directly hit by the decision to cut mining out of the game. I've beeen told that unlawful groups have problems assembling strike forces... etc.
So I keep asking myself, whether there are even more that I don't know because we haven't had that much contact.
I am interested in the Factions and players of factions opinion and experience about the following question:
Please use this format for answering:
____
Name, containing faction tag, e.g. IMG|Jack_Henderson
Vote: B
Reason: sum up your reason, feel free to keep it short and to the point
____
QUESTION: [color=#FF9900]How has the decision to turn off mining influenced the faction(s) you are playing with?
A) It is good for my faction. + Why
B) It is bad for my faction. + Why
C) It doesn't have much of an effect + Why
If you play in more than one faction, please make sure you differentiate, so that I can see which faction has been affected in which way.
Name: IMG|Jack_Henderson
Vote: B
Reason: With nothing to do in the region of my operations (Dublin), activity and roleplay in this scenario dropped to zero. IMG activity in general has been low (my perception only) in general since the mining decision while it was very high before.
Name, [OG]Eichann.Rush
Vote: C
Reason: No more ore pirating, but raiding New york with two scyllas? Priceless. That and the Old Guard is totally lolzy. Farming NPC cruisers, mortaring Thames and Essex, carving a path of death and destruction through London, Cambridge and beyond leaving a trail of double razored fighters and floating ships pieces......yeah, we're all good.
gone four years, first day back: Zoners still getting shot in Theta :|
.:j:.Salvager
Vote: B
Reason: It has removed our main legal front and an activity we spent many hours doing, either individually or as a group. Our flagships, the Salvage frigates, which cost in excess of $105m and specifically designed for scrap mining have now lost their primary purpose. The faction has had a noticeable drop in activity as members play or create other characters with little to no reliance on mining. Even one of our co-leaders has announced his own sabbatical for the duration.
Like it or not folks, it's had a huge impact on the .:j:. faction.
.:j:.Salvager - Junker Congress (Salvage Frigate) := Recipient of the Yanagi Defense Medal
.:j:.Salvager.VHF - Collector
.:j:.Salvager.B - Recycler
.:j:.Salvager.B2 - Waran
"Good news everyone. I suddenly and unexpectedly have job vacancies for an entire spaceship crew!"
=LSF= - voted either A or B.
Reason: Don't be surprised, with the mining turned off, we, on the one hand, got more activity in the Independent Worlds. But on the other hand, the LSF may be renamed to Lolwut Slaying Force, since many of those new embargo-runners don't even get why we stop them. Still, it's fun. So I'm leaning to A.
Order| - in my opinion, it's C.
Reason: We are the Order, after all, don't have to do much with mining.
+LE+ - leaning to B.
Reason: The [GMS] lost their main source of income, so that surely affects the Brigands. Although I'm yet to see the consequences entirely.
Name: Roger Claymore (various dots between the two words for different characters)
Faction: Roger's Rocs'
Vote: B
Reason: Our primary purpose was to hit miners in the fields or the haulers as they moved between the field and the selling point. I don't want to sit waiting at a trade lane for normal traders that may never come at all, and are most of the time worse at role-playing than the miners and haulers. Without mining there's no point in continuing with the group. I've only logged into my Claymore characters to move them back to the Freeports they're docked at, and nothing more. Except run into a few RM, but that's not important.
Name: Bowex)Chamberlain
Faction: Bowex)
Vote: B
Reason: I enjoyed hauling gold ore with this character. It was risky, and I saw a lot of people doing it so had some people to talk to on occasion. I switched to ore hauling because normal trading was just so boring. I haven't used the character since the mining mod was turned off.
Name: Tomtomrawr
Faction: Discovery
Vote: B
Reason: My most enjoyable characters were reliant on the mining mod. The only reason I've logged in Disco since its shutdown was to prevent some characters from facing an inactivity wipe. I've lost interest in Disco for the moment.
[17:45:39] Wolfs Ghost (Murphy): Tom, you have problems. Go kill yourself.
[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.
[14:22:56] Prarabdh Thakur: KILL HIM WITH A SHEEP.
[17:40:48] Eagle (Junes): Tom should be slapped with a spoon.
[11:32:18] Warspite: Thank you for being so awesome Tom. <3
[18:17:36] Metano: I love you tomtom
[20:06:24] Warspite: I will seriously give you epic head.
