My first CGI model

I just got google sketchup this afternoon and I started messing around with it and this is what I came up with.

It is a ship from my own work, specifically an Austican Battlecruiser...designed to be a fast attack ship that operates in wolf packs of six to twelve to overwhelm the opposition... the Austicans are not the most advanced guys in this work so they can't go toe to toe with another ship and expect to survive...they rely on speed and numbers.











Time maybe...3 hours, 4 tops

Stop playing Mass Effect, otherwise it's not half-bad just replace all the straight lines with curves, straight lines are so 80s

Myess I was inspired by the game.

And I went and made an Austican ship just for that reason, almost no curves in their designs...at least in what plans I have sketched up. I figured it was a good first shot in sketch up, curves are a bit harder to make than straight lines.

Well there is a Mass Effect Dreadnought/Carrier I don't know which it is but comparing the size to the cruisers it's definitely one of the two

Pretty good, actually, considering it's your first day with the program.

I recently started working Sketchup, too. Never done any sort of 3D modeling before, but I'm having fun with it. My most recent models are a few Bionicle figures, which I'm pretty proud of. I've thought about getting into the ship-modeling part of Disco, but I think I'm still a ways off from that kind of quality. Besides, I think our ship modelers use programs that are somewhat more advanced than Sketchup.

Anyway, about your model, It's nicely detailed. My first model was a lot... blander. I'd just suggest cleaning up some of the unnecessary lines, though, like the ones that you may have used for guidance. Erase them or hide them.

And something's going on with the faces of the circles that connect the engines to the wings. I'm not sure what. Maybe you just need to align all your faces so that the "front" (the lighter white side) is facing out. Some of the faces, like the ones on the engines, seem like they're inside out.

And yeah. Curves are a bit more difficult than straight edges.

Sorry Jeremy I do own a console so don't take that as a "PC MASTER RACE DERP U SUCK!" but I gotta say that there are no good Western RPGs for the them...Including Mass Effect which is basicly a TPS with implemented RPG elements. The strenght of the consoles are the JRPGs in which they excell
