Meh! Antivirus

Okay, so I just found out the new antivirus I switched to (which was awesome at finding things and defending the computer) was way too manual to be safe.

I originally switched to it so I could access the servers on FL without having to uninstall my antivirus to do so.
And it's a very nice AV programme, too. But here's the deal, it also made my connection hiccup so darn much after a while that I switched back to a normal, more common antivirus programme.
Which ones aren't exactly important.

But seeing as I am running this on vista or XP, I now can't connect to the servers while the antivirus is on my computer, due to that one filter or other that blocks old connections like that for some vague reason.

I don't want to do this in a tedious manner, so I'll ask, even if it's probably been asked before:
Is there a way to go around that antivirus filter or whatnot that prevents me from playing without uninstalling/reinstalling all the time?

I've looked around for ages, also prior to the whole juggling antiviruses. (which we all know how that turned out. my router kept shutting off every two minutes because it was now the only thing preventing my computer from foreign connections... that's how that thing works, I gather.)

There is no clear suggestion ANYWHERE to how I can do it.
I've seen suggestions on opening the ports for freelancer, but that's not the problem, because it's not a router issue.

I'm no whiz, but I know enough to know it's an antivirus protocol somewhere that, while not directly blocking the link, old things like freelancer get interfered with when you go for online play.

Any simple, straightforward help would be much appreciated.
I'll give you <3 and muffins if you can help me.

Because I don't want to run around unprotected, or having a feverish router just because I take the shortcut.

On beforehand, thanks.

Would really help if we knew what AV.

But generally it'd be under...

-> Tools -> Advanced Options -> (Most relevant option)

Well just now I'm running AVG, latest version. The free one, obviously, cause the paid one ain't really worth it if you know wtf you're doing.

I was recently using antimalwarebytes, as it's not only awesome, but lets me play games that would otherwise be blocked. But then that leaves my computer open because it is a lot more manual and you need to remember to run it at least once a day for a brief scan. It's better and finding/curing **** than, say, norton.

But it's manual. And that means my router, a physical medium to block intrusive programmes, has to work more, and it reads a few programs as dangerous if you don't have an AV actively running. So it kills your internet once it thinks you're being attacked or other.

It shouldn't be my internet because it's fiberoptic and more capable than I actually need (but hey it's cheaper than some of the other networks out there who'll give you half the speed for twice the price).. But You can probably imagine my frustration when I have to rob the other person in my abode of the wireless just to get internet by bypassing the router with a wired cable. Because I ruined the internet like that for the past two days.. Just from trying to use skype/etc without an active AV filter

Yeah, There has to be a way to go about this..

I could give it a shot.:)
I'm a little reserved towards Microsoft standard things, though.
Not cause I don't trust them, but because too many use them, so there are more people working with stuff to bypass it.

That could just be my paranoia speaking, though

I'm currently using "Comodo Internet Security".

Before that I was using Zone Alarm....but an 'update' broke it.

That's when I switched to Comodo. No major dramas so far.

A possibly very ordinary signature coming soon.

MSE works like a charm cuz its prime function is to prevent ANY and ALL programs from tampering with Windows.

it gets updated every 14 days or every month, varies as to how many viruses that affect windows is discovered.

It does however, do a ****ty job protecting anything else, but well. It is however possible to have MSE AND another anti virus going on at the same time. For a while i had AVG and Kaspersky trails. Yet they never even tried to accuse MSE for being a virus like antivirus programs usually do when they find other AV programs installed

But does that open for my using my antivirus AND play FL online?

If you're still using AVG it shouldn't be blocking a thing.

If it is:

Open up the AVG Control Panel thing:

Tools -> Advanced -> Excluded items

Point it to your FL exe.

PS: I use AVG, haven't had a problem, and every so often I run a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware just to be sure.
