Right now there are way to many pirates and not enough law enforcement in game it's getting to the point that it's EXTREMELY OORP.
Last night there were about 7 pirates holding up the Calli system all in overpowered ships and not a single member of the military to help.
Today there were about 4-7 pirates on almost every trade lane in New York! NEW YORK one of the most heavily patrolled systems in the game.
People stop becoming pirates there are so many it's getting to the point of trolling damn it. a new player like me can't do ****!
Last night was bad enough when i lost half my money to pirates, and today is even more annoying since I didn't have any money every pirate I meet just kills me for not paying them. I need at least a little money to buy what i need to hull cargo to make frikeing money and being killed every time I don't have enough money isn't going to give you pirates a payday.
Long story short there are way to many pirates all pirating in places that they really shouldn't be able to. Pirates in a LIVING world wouldn't be able to pirate in force in a system like New York or Calli there would be to much of a military presence. instead they would stick to the back roads, trade-lanes with less patrols.
There are no accidents and no fatal flaws in the machines; there are only pilots with the wrong stuff.
No one wants to RP. Just PvP. So after their lawful gets ganked by 5+ pirates they say frack it,and make a pirate char.
The admins will not fix it.
The players will not fix it.
Discovery is broken, and more and more exploit it daily.
Leave, and go play SWWT until 4.86 comes out. Even then it may just get worse, and not better.
Last day i played Discovery. In NY got ganked by 4 Outcast dreads.
Later in NY got ganked by 9 mixed pirate bombers/GB's
And again hour later. Ganked by 12+ mixed pirate ships, and ragequit.
And if not pirates? Then the lawfuls pirate you saying your smuggling,or breaking imbargo's.
Last time I checked the [LN] were complaining at the lack of pirate activity in Liberty. So I really think these two sides between "lawful" and "unlawful" shift sporadically in a place like Liberty. A lot of it has to do with timezones, which is what my observations over the past years tells me at least.

If you would like realism, then the pirate ships would all be worthless in PvP. Like pitting a Supermarine Spitfire against a Eurofighter Typhoon. Everyone would play a military character, and the only ones who would play pirates would be those who want to experience the thrill of piracy, looking over your shoulder and trying to get one up on the law, with the very real (rather than totally skill dependent) threat of dying.
To be honest, I like that discovery is focussed more on balance than realism. It gives it a playability that lots of other games lack. Instead of needing to be a die-hard to play a Pirate, I can do so as a pass-time, for a bit of fun, as it should be. Of course, this plus the freedoms associated with pirates, which are not repeated by the militaries, make them at least as popular as the navies themselves to play as.
Would you rather have the freedom to play as you like, or the safe trade lanes you desire to "make money"?

Nope. It is the chat screen. People log in,they look who is on,and then pick Pirate,or lawful so they can join the gank squad. Everyone has both,so they pick what ever char they know they will be on winning side with.
So i repeat.
