In the summer 819 A.S. Gallic Royal Navy fleet started the advance to Bretonia. The whole operation was possible due to the shortcut to Edinburgh via Lewis system, discovered by the loyal Union Corse families members and Junkers - and later confirmed by the Royal Navy reconnaissance wing. At that moment the system was under the control of bretonian terrorist group known as Gaians, but the defences, fortunately, weren’t capable of repelling an organised attack - that, finally, took place.
Gaians knew about the possibility of it for a long time, but the attack still appeared to be a surprise. While fighter and bomber wings were launched to slow down the incoming battlegroup, the emergency evacuation started. Gaians had no chance to win this fight, but it wasn’t the end: the Faroe project, funded by the Green Front and the ring of loyal organisations, something that was meant to change the course of conflict between Gaians and the Crown, appeared to be their last asylum.
The resistance forces made the impossible - they managed to buy the refugees the priceless hours to finish the evacuation of civilian personnel and scientists from Glendale station; but the end of the action was predetermined. Royal Navy marines took Glendale by storm, the remaining guardsmen surrendered and in four hours after the beginning of operation, the leadership of Gaians signed an armistice with the invasion forces.
At the same time, a group of pilots that managed to make a fighting retreat to Edinburgh and then to Manchester through Leeds, expressed a vote of no confidence to the actions of hastily reorganised administrative body of the organisation. In the result, the pilots were declared dangerous dissidents and the information about them was given out to the Gallic Royal Navy intelligence. Basically, there was no choice for Gaians; they weren’t ready for this future and no one had a clear understanding of what the way of action will be the wisest one.
While the secret ties between the Gaians in Faroe, on Islay and Skye bases, that appeared to be on the front line or in occupied space, and the group opposed to the truce remained, the resistance, named itself “Edelweiss”, attempted to establish a base of operations from Holmfirth base that used to be a hideout of Coalition Rebels some months ago; though, the future of it, as well, as the way they could aid Bretonia in the incoming conflict, remained unknown for the moment. Not tempted to endanger the rest of the movement for longer time, they had to act quickly and find a new place to operate from and the way to supply their little war effort, since the supply lines, Green Front sources, and everything they were used to, appeared to change.
[color=#FFFFFF]Disclaimer
While the occupation of Lewis and the loss of ideals became the impulse that brought Edelweiss to life, being opposed to the incoming invasion is not that easy. Their reputation in Bretonia is bad, all the members are still considered wanted terrorists, they have no base to operate from, no money and hardly have a facility to repair their fighters, scratched in the last attempt to hold Royal Navy. In that situation, along with the general goal, the micro-management comes becomes the most important thing.
The good officer always knows the importance of logistics. So, with the grudge against Gallia beared, members of the Edelweiss had first to find someone to take care of them in exchange of anything - from the old partnership to their dirty work. In other words, while the invasion is the reason why Edelweiss is created and while their high moral ground is backed up by patriotism, grievance or other personal reasons, on practice the group will have to deal with the supplies problems, look for bases of operation and balance between their past stance as bretonian terrorists and the new one in the new world.
In other words, this is not a mere group, created for the sole purpose of fighting GRN.

[color=#FFFFFF]Just to notice
This group isn't meant to appear right here and right now; it's a very basic draft for 4.86 that reflects that impact of the incoming events on the Gaian movement. Actually, it represents the Gaians in the way I find interesting and underdeveloped in Discovery context: Gaians as the bretonian political movement.
Eventually, such a group has all the rights to exist and play its role in the general balance; along with the Gaians in general that are forced to sign a non-agression pact with the Royal Navy. Also, to avoid possible abuse of Gaian ID and issues caused by it, the group sticks to Mercenary ID, which works pretty good since without stable base of operations, without resources and so on, those Gaians could use an extra million credits.
This post will be updated later, but right here and right now some feedback will be already appreciated. In the meanwhile, the events described above are based on the "Discovery 4.86 Storyline: Bretonia in *** A.S." text; just in case anyone got questions concering the imaginary future.
[color=#FFFFFF]Q&A
Q: Why Edelweiss?
A: It's a cute flower. Yes, I don't give a shot about SS divisions and whatever else. Please, stop overreacting and go watch this. Users that can't access this video from their country may try this link or search for years 1968 or 2005 movie "Producers".
Q: Will this group request officiality?
A: It's unnecessary.
Q: What about the recruitment and stuff?
A: Apparently, this is my own pvp-hoar group where I will collect all the best pilots I know and we will fly around shooting people with few or no roleplay. What else are the Mercenary IDed groups made for?
Q: Why Mercenary ID?
A: It's generic and has white cell with Gaians.
Q: Why do you want to be another one of over 9000 groups that shoot GRN?
A: Because for us it makes a lot of sense - can't say it for the others.
Q: Why is the *** in the diplomacy sheet?
A: If someone appeared there, there is a clear understanding of the future relations with this party. Otherwise, he won't appear there. For example, Sequoia Hart has some ties to Aoi Iseijin. Due to this fact, the general position of the group towards them will be positive as far as she can influence the whole thing.
' Wrote:Edelweià is German. Should take a different Name for it imo.
' Wrote:Not a very good choice for a Gaian faction name IMO too. It reminds me a lot of German WW2 Waffen SS unit.
Yes, the word itself isn't of english origin; yes, there is a list of things called "Edelweiss" as well. In addition, there is a russian spetsnaz unit called "Edelweiss" which isn't mentioned on the english page. Though, I don't refer to group's bretonian origin when picking up such a name, but to my own preferences in botany.
I will look for something else, but I don't have any other names in mind - and for sure I won't change it just because something was called the same way before.
Since this group will be composed of Bretonian patriots, the name should at least look British.

Aoi Iseijin;
Aoi Iseijin will "become" pirates in .86 who will side with bd, gc. What's the reason for choosing them?
Also, why you posted it now? It will probably take a while (I hope so) before .86 is released..

It's still the name of flower, though, as I said, I'll think of something else. But I like the current name, that's a fact.

We had enjoyable contacts in the past and NLH has some a tad specific relations with Aoi Iseijin. Though, since those relations are primarily based on Sequoia Hart, and she'll be the member of "Edelweiss-or-whatever-else", I just mentioned something I'm more or less sure about. You see, the diplomacy sheet is very basic for the moment.
I posted it now, because I got it in mind now. I don't mind if it will take time before the next mod version will be released - but if I will have more time to improve the concept, it's a win-win situation.
Oh, likey likey. I'll probably join come .86 - but yeah, I'm interested as to why you've specifically named Aoi in the neutral part when so few of the other factions are mentioned... Why the special relations?
