Anyway, what's the difference between this and just changing how fast you turn? Apart from the fact it can only be used out side of cruise.
I don't really think this needed. Considering how much you can make with a barge, you should really need to be prepared and have the patience to overcome both NPCs and other docking problems.
I'm inclined to simply say "that's what you get for buying a Barge!", but I'll refrain from any such outbursts.
In addition to what Reavequanimitairitee said, lack of mobility really is one of the prices you pay for that awesome cargo space. Unfortunately, when the NPCs flip you all about, it's just something you'll have to deal with. That's part of the challenge of flying a Barge.
And besides, if a /flip command really were implemented, I could see some abuse from it, even if it were made specifically so that only the Barge could use it. A pirate bomber shoots a SNAC at you? /flip 90 degrees upwards and dodge that thing without even thinking.
Not necessarily, Zuk. It could have a certain "cooldown" or smack a huge green message, so if you used /flip while in combat, you'd get sanctioned for it. Also, /flip could be made to just spin you around so you're fully aligned with the X axis of the system. So if you were trying to dock with a gate and an NPC smacked you to say look vertically up, you type in /flip and it puts you back straight with the system plane. If you're above or under the plane it flips you aligned with the X axis.
Sucks to be a weight on the wrong side of the brilliance-insanity scale.

Alright ... I think it was too hidden inside my post:D
Everyone flying a bigger ship than a freighter agrees to the fact that his ship will get flipped by the NPCs from time to time. Freelancer wasn't made for the big ships Discovery introduced.
In case of the Barge:
Yes, it is annoying. But that's what you get when you are flying a vessel that's intended as a somewhat mobile station (station =/= ship). Deal with it. You wanted one, you got one. Don't use it if you can't stand the NPCs.
