Would it be possible to implement items such as say...a freezer, or a radiation contaiment unit? These addons would be mountable on all ships except fighters, and they would serve as a counter-effect to the degradation of perishable cargo! Say, make the perishables such as lux food degrade much faster due to ionno, high temperature or background radiation or whatnot, but significantly faster, so in a trip you don't lose 3-4 units, but rather 300-ish. Unless, of course, you sacrifice 10 units of cargo to install a freezer, which would stop the perishing completely.

Discuss please, no trolling, this is just an idea.

Sucks to be a weight on the wrong side of the brilliance-insanity scale.

its is a great idea, however goods like some fruits (lux goods) can't be transported frozen
they have to be cooled to 4° decrees celcius, and still they pherish.

so I think the containers of lux goods are already cooled/freezed like the RL variant the Reefer Container.

It makes sense, I like it.

Here's another idea: life support units.

Give us 2 types, a small one for snubs and freighters (5-15 cargo space) and a big one (100-500 cargo space) for transports. Live cargo (npc pilots, slaves, VIP'€™s, passengers, prisoners, refugees, spaceship crew, vacationers, even gaian wildlife) should die fast unless you have one installed and when the '€œhealth bar'€ reaches zero you'€™ll lose all your live cargo, not just one unit.

I realize it would take a lot of work but it would be a nice addition

Okay then, if the perishable goods like food and alien organisms are already cooled to a 4 degrees celsius temperature, then some sort of an inhibitory room for plutonium? Or other highly toxic or radioactive cargo? E.G. if you carry plutonium or MOX, or Toxic Waste without an inhibitor, your ship takes damage the whole trip!

still it would be sill in my humble opinion,
as a lot of goods have their size to compensate those things.
