' Wrote:Zoner Whales: Fragile, unarmored, huge hold, cheap. Problems were more with the amount of Q_Q about being pirated and blown up repeatedly then abusing the ID really.
I was a huge Zoner player during the time the problem was around. It was definitely because of abuse, not because of Q_Q about being pirated. The new ID doesn't reduce piracy against Zoners or protect you from being blowing up. 90% of Zoner Guard ID'd ships were Zoner Whales powertrading to places they shouldn't have been. 80% of all traders on the server were Zoner Guard ID'd. This was a massive problem.
Since the implementation of the new guard ID, the amount of ZBTs has reduced drastically. The amount of corporate ID'd ships has risen drastically, and corporate factions are now having player factions to represent them. Something that was extremely rare since Discovery was made.
The change stopped the abuse and made a significant positive impact on the corporate side of Disco. A side much neglected.
I have two gunboats, one is main char and other is a new one that i made. I was on this new one that only has a AU8, while my main has a CAP8, and i took some cargo and a pirate gunboat, i will not tell the faction, tryed to pirate me.. he got his back side kick. So if there are pirates that are willing to take a Conference why not take a whale? :-)
Many Zoner ships are pirated and nothing happen to then. Probably some even dock on Zoner bases and even use Zoner guns, like already happened not to me but i once chace one pirate on a gunboat with zoner turrets.. me and about a dozen Zoners. So been Zoners don't make us imine to piracy.. been a indepedente Zoner is like a freelancer, there is Zoner factions and they can make something if their ships are attacked but indies are indies. Like the Zoner description says ... we are a group of individuals who, for various reasons, have decided to live in the wild and unregulated systems outside colonial control.
- we ( devs ) decided that we wished to make the guard IDs rarer - placed them into guard systems only and made it so that you d require a full guard rep to purchase them. but at the same time we did NOT make it harder to get a guard rep ( a bit of a half baked concept )
- ZG were allowed 5k, zoners 3.8k? something like that
- during the developement of 4.85 ... many "lawful" trading cooperations / house cooperations complained that they did not get the attenction required ( not the attention by the devs - but the attention by the players )
- 4.85 started ... and soon there were many edgeworld traders ( not as many as dab says - but noticably many )
- so it was proposed to the 3 official zoner factions to restrict docking rights for the ZG by dab. All zoner factions agreed! - and so it was changed.
- the idea was to "discourage" edgeword trade and therefore encourage the alternative ..... house trade. the dev team looked into the concept of trading at that time. - ( house trade - pick lane after lane, be disrupted every now and then and being easier to pirate - while it SHOULD be harder - but the devs cannot do much when the lawfuls are not able to fight the pirates back - that is an imbalance that cannot be predicted and countered )
- ZG were nerft - but house trade still stagnated. that is partly, cause trade-lane trade is still rather annoying - and partly, cause the houses themselves place embargos and restrictes upon themselves to make repell traders again.
- in 4.86 .... it was announced that most factions "might" loose cargo restrictions anyway.
Tycho - i once was on a mod that 1 billion? Easy less than 2 hours because i didn't made an update :-) But that ended, so i was on another that, it was a bug or something, from the ring to the oder ship yard you gain over 1k per unit :-) When i camed here i never saw a mod so dificult to make money, 10 ... 12 ... 14 million per hour? Damn! A former player here, a friend of mine had to spend a lot and a lot time on the computer to get a Jinkusu and a cap armour upgrad 6 .. it is now may main char with a Conference with cap armour upg 8.
But one thing ... if every one have caps ships ... where is the fun? I already saw with my own eyes a cruiser been destroyed by a single bomber, and i know others that happend the same, and to me i had more sucess on Iota with my Conference that any time i went there with big ships. Having a big ship is not a big advantage.
Even so i think is unfair for Zoners, since Zoners are not piracy imune.
1 - Im actually kinda happy that its difficult to get Zoner and Zoner Guard ID's - makes it so only people willing to put in the work can represent the faction. i like that.
2 - The Zoner Guard ID is very restrictive, and from an inRP standpoint, i can see why - it represents the truest zoners who have left behind house space for good.
3 - The Zoner Whale shouldnt require a ZGID, but i can see why - too much abuse, i gotcha - makes sense to me.

Quote:Freelancer ID
Pilot carrying this ID is a Freelancer, who :
Can trade and escort traders
Can fulfill lawful and unlawful bounty contracts
Cannot pirate, but can provide security services for pirates who are pirating if paid to do so. Freelancers can only fire on traders or smugglers in self-defense or if the trader or smuggler fires on or is bountied by the Freelancers's employer.
Cannot demand contraband unless specified in employer's bounty Cannot use any transports with more than 3,800 cargo
Allowed ships: Fighters, Freighters, Transports, Gunboats
Carrying unmounted IDs in your ship, as well as not equipping an ID, is a serious crime.
Akegata has 4200 cargo.

If you think either are difficult to get you must be extremely high when you set your characters up. Both take less than an hour to obtain. The only annoying part is having to fly out to 74 to get the guard ID, nothing difficult about it.
