Good day doctors, I am writing to you regarding a private communication regarding a group of pilots of an organization that have come down with some kind of degenerative condition, and appears to be infectious.
These are the symptoms:
Weak Heart
Short Breath
Internal Bleeding
Rare vision loss
Function in her left arm is now completely gone
Core Temp. : 107.3
These symptoms are very similar to CJD, or Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, a rare disease found in humans. In the A.D. era, it is referred too in bovine as mad cow disease. The corporation will give us a comprehensive list of the travels in the last six months and the contacts they have made. However I have discovered it is not in fact infectious, but has a half life of up too 6 months, before showing radical symptoms as was mentioned prior.
These patients are in our secure quarantine block, but I believe the virus is not transmissible through direct contact or respiration.
Any information you may have regarding this will be most appreciated.

Kallisti, Doctor,
I only have Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease listed in records but admittedly, I have no actual experience in dealing with this illness. At my next staff meeting, I will bring it up and see who amongst my staff has dealt with it. Based on what you are telling me, it sounds as if it is transmitted by direct contact from blood but until we know for certain, I would take precautions and treat it as if it were an airborn virus.
I see you are located at Manhattan. I can either take some of my staff there on my shuttle or I can ask my newly commissioned ship, [TAZ]Med.Force.Two to head there. Mind you, MF2 is mostly medical and doesn't have a lot of research labs on it, basically, a mobile clinic. Either way, I can be there.
Thank you for your swift response. We have a comprehensive laboratory at out institute on Planet Manhattan that you are most welcome to utilize. We also have a research vessel that is also adequately equipped to deal with most needs.
Currently the patients are in an induced coma, and their current state of deterioration has been slowed by our research staff administering a trial serum consisting of one part liquid cardimine, one part hydrogen and two parts saline solution. The cardimine is to artificially stimulate the vital organs whilst induced while the rest of the body is starved of nutrients to slow the diseases progression.
I believe that we are running out of time, and am still awaiting the information requested by us from the client.
Currently the patients are still in quarantine. None of the staff undertaking this task are to leave the complex, so I would advise your staff to understand our S.O.P regarding barrier nursing under quarantine.
I await in earnest for your response.

I have just now received a brief transmission regarding the patients point of origin.
Quote:The last know location we found our pilots was in Delta. but as far as we know they made there way from Delta to NY with out any problems. tho in my age ive been wrong many times. they went though - Delta, Minor, Alaska, and finily made to NY
I am beginning to doubt that it could be Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, considering the exposure to nomad influences.
Is it possible the Nomads have found a new way to attack the mind?
God speed,

If the last known location was Omicron Delta then it could well be Nomad infestation. I have encountered this only once. The patient was infested by a Nomad and she had a cardamine addiction. In my attempt to treat the addiction, the Nomad became angry. I have the mangled remains of a gurney and one nurse was killed in the ruckus. You will find that the host becomes very strong. Doctor Bohr, by introducing cardamine into this patient, you may have made things worse.
My knowledge of the Nomads is limited although I try to study them. The only doctor I knew that was very good with them is no longer alive. I do understand the rules of staff in a quarantined area. I'll put together a team to make a trip to you. Just let me know where to find you.
We administered the serum before we knew what was the prognosis. If we have indeed increased the Nomad specimens alteration, then I must accept the only outcome for these patients. We have the means to keep these folk in a secure site, however, I am a man of morals and so if these men and woman are beyond the point of no return then I will see to it that they will no longer suffer and become a threat.
Please come to Planet Manhattan, and our complex is 15 clicks at 90 degrees from the Manhattan Space Port. You will see the Lincoln University Complex, and our landing site is Dock Number 14. This leads straight to our reception where I will meet you personally and settle you and your team in before I show you the relevant documents relating to this incident.
I am aware that more staff aboard the clients vessels are suffering the same fate, and so if we are too late for the initial patients we received, then I hope that we can save the remainder of the crew. I have instructed the captain of the vessel to send his ship into our quarantine dock, Dock Number 17, and to remain aboard his vessel until such time we can ascertain the cause of this infestation.
I will alert the authorities that they are to engage and destroy the vessel if the transition of Nomad infestation takes control of the vessel and it tries to make haste out of Manhattan Atmosphere.
Yours faithfully,

Dr Bohr, Dr Anderson and a several other medical professionals had heard Doc Hollidays craft had entered into Manhattans atmosphere, and gathered in the Complex reception lounge. As the TAZ vessel landed, the Lincoln medical team approached and greeted the Zoner crew.
"Doctor Holliday, in the last few hours the crew have turned for the worse. Our fears were true, they are Nomad infected personnel." Dr Bohr proclaimed with an edge of uncertainty "We've decided to lock down quarantine, fill it with CO2 and snap freeze the entire quarantine so that the subjects are approachable. I believe there is nothing we can do to save these people."
Dr Bohr picked up a file, and handed it to Doc Holliday. "This is all the data the captain of the Brotherhood Of Steel has forfeited to us before he succumbed to the Nomad infection. This is the raw data"
Quote:this is brother Lyon of the BoS calling in.
we heard your medical reasearchers.
if you can, we need your help.
one of our pilots named [BoS]Caticalum.
she has had an run in with an unknown virus.
now, she ran from our base in fear of infecting us.
but we need her back.
the virus can \/
Day 1-2 : short of breath, weak heart.
Day 3-4 : internal bleeding, loss of vision at rare points.
Day 5-6 : Beginning of shut down of body
Day 7-8 : close to death
Day 9-10 : Death
this is what we fear. she is already on day 6.
if you can not help we have no where else to turn.
I shell wait for your responce.
Quote:as far as weve seen the pilot has been showing the following :
Weak Heart
Short Beath
Internal Bleeding
Rare vision loss
her left arm is now complety gone (shut down)
........................
New : also, this has worried us.
Coma
Core Temp. : 107.3
.......................
we just had to put two more pilots in containment. they are all showin the same signs of this virus.
please try to find whats happing to my pilots.

Doc took the file and read it as he stood, slowly walking toward a door and then back. As he read it, he was reminded of the young woman long ago he treated on Med.Force.One. That was one nomad that he had dealt with. Still, he found a way back then to communicate with it. Of course, he also had a guard detachment that could more than hold there own against it. He didn't have that luxury at present.
This case was worse. The fever alone was enough to kill the patient not to mention bleeding and the body shutting down gradually. Yes, this was like nothing he had ever encountered. He also remembered what happened when the young woman he treated before had the cardamine removed from her system. The violent outbursts, mangled gurney and a dead nurse were the result. As much as he detested the use of cardamine and all the reasons as to why Dr. Bohr used it as a medicine, for this time, it may be a small blessing.
"Dr. Bohr, I'll be honest," he explained, "I really don't know what to think. My knowledge of Nomads is quite limited and I know of no one outside of maybe Order scientists who have the needed knowledge to deal with this." He then put on a scowl and spoke with sarcasm, "And the Liberty Government calls them terrorists? Go figure!"
He then returned to his professional self. "I would at least like to get some scans. It'll give me something to work with."
Hours passed, tests were trialled, scientist brains racked, and an ash tray filled to the brim with cigarette butts.
An assistant came bustling in, face full of dismay. "Doctors!" he exclaimed "The subjects were chilled, and we were able to approach them. But they are all dead! And not from the freezing. There is signs of a small firefight. I retrieved the data-console and found this untransmitted message."
Dr Bohr grabbed the data pad off the assistant and stared at it for a moment before placing it onto his workbench. He tapped at his computer, and a screen flickered on the back wall. On it displayed the unsent message:
Quote:[Warning Level : Red]
shoot us... please... i wont let this get out of hands... even if some of us are not infected... shoot us... its only a matter of time... before... before i... can no long keep... control... please... Clare just found of about us.... now.... shes.... shes coming to LRI.... this is out of your hands... and we... only got one option... good bye... and thanks...
*puts out his pistol, but before he shots the screen goes blank*
[Message lost]
"I believe we are too late for this crew," Dr Bohr commented, stroking his beard "Get the quarantine team to cryo cube each crew member of that vessel, and find the crew dossier. Make sure we got everyone!"
Dr Bohr turned to Dr Holliday, and asked "What would you like to do from here? Would you like to use our facilities to conduct research into this unusual method of infestation, or you wish to take it to your own labs? We can crate up any number of this crew for you."
