.. Why is it always that you always find one small pirate fighterpilot having an entire army chasing after them, complete with battlecruisers, battleships, and an armada of fighters/bombers?
.. Why are Bounty Hunters so tightly knit, anyway? Why does every Bounty Hunter band together at the first sight of trouble? Alot of Bounty Hunters would merely be thugs acting within the law, and bounty hunting to begin with would be a very explosive, competitive market. Why is every Bounty Hunter a "good" guy acting in the role of Navy, Military, or Police w/ different ships? They probably shouldn't be taking interest in anything unless it's for profit, you'd think. I remember I had a bad encounter with Cheshire once over a pirate he/she helped my lawful police character kill, 'cause I didn't pay him/her any credits for the help s/he invested. This is how Bounty Hunters should be - they fire guns when it means credits will come into their pockets (more often than not, anyway).
Not meaning to flame, just calling that as I see it from factions like FH, DW, and.. Uhm, other factions who's abbreviations I can't remember.
Granted, today I tried to assasinate a BH player and the result was a fleet was dropped on me, that's all fine n' dandy, but I really can't see how/why a battlecruiser and a battleship (complete with complimentary 5 star bomber/fighter escort) would literally dash to the aid of a single BH Bomber in the middle of a system they don't even really have influence in (California - it's patrolled by Police and Navy as far as I know, not BH). You might see that when the BH are dealing with a Nomad or Corsair incursion, but you surely wouldn't see it for one stray Lane Hacker Sabre..
.. There's also alot of independent Liberty lawfuls running around in battlecruisers and the like picking on Fighters with extreme prejudice. I'd like to point out that this only encourages players to "get big" like you just so they can pop you like you have them billions of times. All of this is coming from a pretty decent pilot, too - I'm certainly not the best but I definitely hold my own usually, y'know..?
.. Seems like pirates are dying out lately except for the Corsairs. I usually have pretty good experiences with the LSF, but honestly.. Everyone else just gets in the way, in an extremely frustrating, disruptive way.
Yeah it happens to me a lot you get into one small skirmish then amazingly quickly you are completely swarmed by bounty hunters, mercenaries, navy, police, random bystanders, none of whom usually ever try to take me on individually.
It's very rare for me to get into any fight without being outnumbered actually it's most likely my own fault and the price I pay for being a lone pirate but a lot of time it is pure overkill on the other side .
That all being said there is something fun about being against the odds and fighting a superior force but I can definitely sympathise.
I do agree...more often than not, I've used the term 'Shove off' while defending Bretonia.
Figured it fits the role of arrogant and honorable men....(doesn't mean we wont cut you down and piss on you) but, it really is a problem, a light figher, or a light fighter/bomber/VHF combo really deserves similar force, say, maybe 2 more fighter class vessels, or a fighter and a GB...but, the extra pair of cruisers and the GB...its excessive...and, honestly, is the fish in a barrel target practice even fun?
I can definitely sympathize...it's dangerous being a Hessian. Loads of indie Rheinland Navy, BHG, and other lawfuls descend like vultures on you.
It's for these reasons that I barely ever fly my BHG character anymore...seems there's more BHG than criminals!
The other day, a few of my new RHA recruits - still not fully equipped or familiar with their ships - were attacked near Dresden by a pair of RM Wraths piloted by experienced individuals. I brought my gunship only because my fighter was docked elsewhere far away; and since the wrath's a hard target, I spent most of my time just directing my pilots, clueing them in to a few weaknesses they might take advantage of, and keeping an eye on who was in what system.
Until one of my recruits fell to Hans...moments later, the lawfuls started pouring in via the New Berlin jump hole, just a handful of K away from the battle. First, an indie Wrath; then an indie RN Gunboat...then a BHG battlecruiser....all versus a Scimitar, two Odins, and a Hacker GS...and then, thankfully, the server crashed. That's why I've directed my pilots to avoid the RM now - because when these indies see the RM and the RHA in the same system, they go all bloodthirsty and rush to the fight. And the annoying Wraths can typically last quite long enough for considerable reinforcements to arrive.
BTW, RM, this is in no way a dig at you. I know you guys take pride in being able to hold your own against anything, and wouldn't call in all those caps.
its doublesided. yesterday - i was flying on cheshire ( sea serpent ) across manhatten to detroit depot. and what did i run into... a LR outcast battleship. - makes me wish for more independents in capital ships.
anyway - piloting is a bit of an evolution. - most people start out as big as they can - and develope more and more towards the smaller stuff. so people safe up for a BB at first. and then slowly go to fighters - ( at that time, they tend to develope a dislike for other new people in battleships )
but just for you to know - its not only independents spamming warships. - its established factions aswell. - and its not a sign of poor RP. a horde of angry capital ships chasing a light fighter is pointless anyway. the fighter will simply evade / escape.
about BHGs teaming up against a common foe. - well, i tried to to play the way that i would only target those that have a bounty on their heads. however - it turned out that i am attacked on sight by any other person - including zoners and trader IDed traders ( yay for funny roleplay ). so - being attacked by everyone left and right - do you truely think the BHG wouldn t team up? - i agree that they are rather indepentent thugs - but then ... the enviroment shapes the characters. they become much more tightly knit when attacked and harrassed by everyone. - oh, and they tend to fly stuff that protects them from the occasional funny guy that shoots them for fun. - ( i had two liberty military shoot cheshire for fun yesterday, cause they don t know the rules and shoot at anything that moves - and when you complain they say stuff like "watch your mouth")
i agree with that.i am always bored when i start in NY i go from place A to place B (i only 1 or 2 times was the attacker other times i am always attacked) and someome attack me.when he is in fighter then ok.i can dealt with that or when that are 2 fighters.then i see no problem. but i see problem when i destroy them or they escape and then come independent battlecruiser or battlecruiser from the cap group.(i think name of group is not needed) then i know i have no chance because fighter again BC can make nothing. and is realy funny when 1 or 2 BC hunts single fighter trough half of system.
bh i meet only in new berlin when i was in fighter and fighting with RM pilot and then come up BH cruiser and battleship. in the end that was 1 fighter on one side and 2 fighters and cruiser and bs on the other side.and only who was bored from that was me nad the RM pilot.
when the mercenaries was able to fly with cap ships, then was not so much BH battleships or battlecruisers and no liberty independent groups full of cap ships without fighters.
What comes around, goes around. Or, to quote the webcomic Schlock Mercenary, "There is no 'overkill'. There is only 'open fire' and 'time to reload'".
I remember doing a mission in Omega-15 in my BH gunship (sans armor upgrades), when I was accosted by 1 Corsair fighter and 1 Corsair bomber. I guess they felt outclassed because a Corsair gunboat joined in the festivities. I went 'splodey. The Corsairs won that round.
A couple of similiar encounters later, I decided to upgrade to a destroyer. Since the upgrade, I've been able to effectively aid merchants (2 have given me rewards) and my fellow BHs. Since I play a BHG Guard pilot, I don't see any problems with helping out other BHs.
As far as BHs being "thugs", I for one don't play a BH thug / mercenary. If a trader offers me a reward, good. If he doesn't, no crime, no foul. Asking or demanding a reward for services rendered seems to me to be more of the merc's game. Collecting on bounties is another kettle of fish.
I have to agree with most of the opinions in this thread. In my personal experience, practically every bounty hunter I have seen has been in a gunboat or above class ship. On my pirate characters I have been camped by Battlecruisers, Battleships, Liberty Dreadnaughts with Bounty hunter tags/ids... It gets pretty ridiculous.
One time in Dublin I went to rob a trader in a Heavy Tanker. A pretty hard task for my Slipstream, I must add. It took ages to break down his shield and I only managed to inflict damage when a Sabre joined the fight.
The trader didn't respond to my demands once. He just pressed F2 and fired his turrets.
Around 5 minutes later, the heavy tanker docked with the Battleship Essex. Then the trader goes offline. 2 or so minutes later, two Bounty Hunter battlecruisers come into Dublin. One has the same name as the Heavy tanker...
I avoided them, but seriously... Reengaging is bad enough. But in a capital ship? No wonder cap-whores get such a bad rep. Not only are they piloting an over-the-top ship, they often break rules/refuse to RP.
