[font=Palatino Linotype]The Election for Freeport 1 Administrator is Now Over
In the wake of the mass exodus of the Privus Zoners, and the station becoming the personal property of the man known only as Dakun, Freeport 1, located in the Omega 3 System, briefly became the center of attention. With the administrator desk left empty in the aftermath of the events, the citizens who called Freeport 1 home were polled as to who should become the new administrator.
While Freeport 1 continues to be rebuilt, two candidates came to be nominated in this "election."
Gratiano Locatelli, a man born of Crete, but who pursued a different path in life. While making the journey from Crete to Gran Canaria, Gratiano lost his wife and newborn son. He has been well known to the residents of Freeport 1 as the tender of the dome's gardens. A well respected pillar of the community.
And Dane Summers, a young man who had previously no history with Freeport 1. As the events began, he offered his service to Dakun to act as his spokesman, and ended up working to solve the diplomatic crisis. For four days straight, he did not sleep, working tirelessly to help rebuild the freeport, negotiate with Bretonia, and make sure that there were no further threats to this Freeport's people.
When asked to become the new administrator, Dane at first demurred. However, as support for him grew, Dane gave this speech to those assembled in Holcroft's Commissary...
"Am I right for this job? That was never for me to decide. I'll be the first to admit, I'm just a kid. I was born to rich parents, and I chose my friends, and freedom over a pretty cage. I embraced space because its the only place I could sleep. I started playing guitar to pick up chicks...And I fell in love with freedom. I've always been in love.
I came here to do what I could, to help. That's never changed. All I want is for people here to be safe, to get the chance to live their lives in peace, to grow up, or grow old, to love, to be loved, and find whatever it is that makes them content. If doing this job means I have the power to make even one persons life better, then I do it gladly. This station, and it's people, deserve it.
But I am what I am. If you put your trust in me, I swear I'll never betray it. If you look to me to keep you safe, I swear I will, or break myself trying. I will never give up on this community. I will never give up on it's future. And I will never give up trying to make everyone's life here better. I've never broken my promises, over all the things I've done, all the choices I've made, I've never once broken a promise.
So I say to all of you - I will make your faith in me worth while. I will never stop trying to make this station safe, its people happy, and their lives better. No matter that all hell should stand against us, I'll never back down, and never give up. I promise."
With the votes counted, Dane Summers won the election by a narrow margin of just 11 votes from Gratiano Locatelli.
Freeport 1's citizens have put their trust in this young man, and only time will tell if the decision was right.
Shortly after the election, Mr. Locatelli himself was asked to comment on the events that had transpired in previous weeks. Though at first he declined to comment, he eventually conceded to give his views on the matters at hand.
"I've lived at Freeport One for many years, now ' and this is perhaps the second time that all of Sirius has been watching the inhabitants of this magnifico station. The first battle of Omega-3 created many tough times for the good men and women of Freeport One, and though many lives were lost, we persevered. I believe that the will of the people shall triumph again.
"I thought perhaps it was my duty to lead the people of Freeport One through this crisis, but perhaps I was incorrect. I have nothing but respect for Mr. Summers, and to believe that we were opponents in any way is simply incorrect ' to the contrary, I and the rest of the FP1 Council have already begun collaborating with him in an effort to obtain as many resources as possible, to reverse the insane 'reconstruction' plans put into motion by Dakun. We all have to buckle down under hard times such as these, and it is not only the right thing for the new Administrator Summers and the rest of the Council, including myself, to do, but the ONLY thing for us to do, to make sure that the effects of the previous madman in charge of this fine station have a minimal impact upon her inhabitants.
"We must band together, citizens of Freeport One, band together and become stronger than ever before, united in our friendship, and make Freeport One what it could and should be. After all, we are all amigos y amigas here, and only through working together have we survived to this point. And we must continue to work together, not only to survive, but to prosper."
Additionally, Mr. Locatelli will be serving on the newly-appointed Freeport One Council, to help guide the new Administrator in his new role and to oversee the more mundane aspects of the day-to-day-life onboard our home.
I congradulate the young lad on his election and applaud Mr. Locatelli in his words of support for FP1's new administrator. Freeport 1 is still an important stopping point for traders moving between the Houses of Bretonia and Rhineland and it is in all our best interests that the station is under proper management, safe, neutral, and free from outside influences.
I wish the new Administrator the best of luck and wisdom.....and aye.. now that things have settled down I'll get caught up on me docking fees.
