Cassandra yawned and opened her eyes. She blinked twice before rolling over and burying her head in her pillow.
Stupid sun She thought to herself Go away and let me sleep for another hour...
She was just about to drift off to sleep when it suddenly occured to her that she was supposed to be able to see the sun. She sat up and tentatively, almost scared that she'd dreamt it, she opened her eyes. Once again she was blinded by the sun light. Her vision was blurry and she blinked a couple of times and rubbed her eyes. Everything came into focus once more.
After a week of blackness she could see again. She got out of bed, checked the tim, it was early. She looked around the room and cleaned up her stuff as best she could before pulling her shoes on by the front door.
She wondered if she should say goodbye... no, everyone was likely still asleep. She wrote a quick note thanking everyone for helping her and promising to pay them all back eventually before quietly slipping out the door. She needn't bother them any further. Besides, she still hadn't sorted out all her emotions and feelings in regards to well... any of them yet.
She got to her bomber prepared for a hefty docking fee only to find it had already been paid for. Evan's work no doubt. She got in the bomber and took off from Manhatten. She was broke again, and slavers didn't hunt themselves. She only hoped Alexis wouldn't hate her for slipping out without a formal goodbye... but she could always fix that later...
Alex slowly woke up, dimly acknowledging the Rika-sized body behind her that was Kaylynn. She rolled over and tucked some loose strands of hair behind the girl's ear. She slid out of bed, smoothing out her T-shirt before tapping on the door to the room Cassandra slept in.
"Cassie? You awake?"
She waited.
"Cassie?"
Alex eased the door open to find it empty. She saw the note. After reading it, she sighed, but smiled.
"A-Alexis?"
Alex turned around and headed back to her bed, where a sleepy-looking Kaylynn sat up. Alex gently kissed the girl who she thought of as another daughter on the head. She smiled, ruffling her hair, then headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
