For those of you who don't know (and for those who are interested) Hurricane Irene is a Category 1 hurricane that is bearing down on the US' Eastern Seaboard. It made landfall in North Carolina at aproxiately 7:45 AM EDT Saturday, August 27th.
Current information has Irene traveling NNE at 15 mph with winds at 85 mph (as of 11:00AM EDT)
Projections expect Irene to make its way towards Long Island, NY as a category 1 hurricane.
A special characteristic of this storm is it's sheer size. It's diameter is nearly 500mi across.
I've got family in baltimore, as well as North Carolina. So far i've heard there's definetly been some damage in north carolina. Baltimore as well soon.
I moved to Upstate NY for college, but my family and many of my friends are still down in LI. I hope they will be ok. A Category 1 hurricane doesn't sound like much, but it's MUCH stronger than anything that the East Coast has gotten in the past several years.

Yeah, i heard about that. Was very funny listening to news commentator. "Perhaps the damage from this hurricane will be the drain all the money Obama's administration saved will go down to". Was hard to keep chewing.
We, (US Virgin Islands), got hit last weekend on 8-21/22 from it. Though, it was just a tropical depression while it was heading out of the Caribbean. Not much damage in my island - just broken and fallen trees blocked the roads and had no power for 22 hours after it passed. Of course, flooded areas...etc.
And we are back to normal weather for now... sunny day.
Wish you all good shelter and that you stick together a bit more (with teaparty yelling hate and alike lately, we here in europe get a disturbing impression).
