The Luxury Liner Greycliffe was commissioned in 652 A.S. and completed the following year. She was a top-of-the-line vessel, outfitted with the most expensive equipment and trappings money could buy. In service solely to Orbital Spa and Cruise, nothing particularly noteworthy happened during the first fifty years of her life, apart from the usual minor pirate attacks. The Greycliffe remained in service until 702 A.S. at which point she was scheduled to be decommissioned.
Sold to DSE, she remained in drydock at Baltimore Shipyard for two years while her internal trappings and systems were gutted, leaving her basically an empty shell with a bridge and an engine. It was at this time that mounting pirate attacks on Orbital Spa and Cruise transports were proving successful and the company was seeing great losses. In an attempt to improve their chances against pirate attack, OSC re-purchased the Greycliffe from DSE and retrofitted her with modular cargo bays, overhauling her engines and control systems in the process.
This use of a former Luxury Liner as a heavy cargo transport proved successful and the Greycliffe would remain in OSC hands for another 107 years, undergoing various overhauls, upgrades, and replacements. It is estimated that, at the present time, there are no parts from the original ship remaining. During this time period, again, very little of note occurred.
Finally, in 809 A.S., the decision was made to permanently scrap the Greycliffe, and to that end she was sent, again, to Baltimore Shipyard. There, in a strange twist of fate, resided the newly-discovered Meld; Quantum Psychosis, who found himself taken with the ancient vessel. Purchasing it, he set about refitting her again to act as a cargo hauler as well as a mobile home for his fellow Melds. In this role she would remain until 816 A.S. at which point Quantum Psychosis abandoned her in the Cortez system to join the rest of the Melds in their collective suicide. The Greycliffe was discovered and recovered by an Orbital Spa and Cruise patrol and was moored to the planet Curacao until a decision could be made as to what to do with her. It was there that a guest on the planet observed the near-derelict ship and negotiated a secret contract with OSC. Captain Walter Stryker, the current owner and operator of the Greycliffe, was granted the vessel for a minimal fee. In return, after completely restoring the Greycliffe in the decor of her original tenure, he would lease himself and his ship back to the company, allowing them to keep a full half of his profits.
Captain Stryker spent a full year and a great deal of money restoring the Greycliffe. Though he mostly utilized the classic decor and design, it is known that he also installed a large casino and a luxurious suite for himself. The blueprints were otherwise kept completely secret between himself and the third-party who restored the ship. The reason for this is not known
Once this restoration was complete, Stryker fulfilled his end of the bargain and entered into the contract with OSC. For a full year, the Greycliffe could be seen plying the tradelanes once again in all her glory. Then, in 818 A.S., the Renzu Corporation released their plans for the new Shukensha liner.
Stryker, being the proud and arrogant individual that he was, set his heart upon having one of these new vessels, but was unwilling to part with his excessively modified Enterprise. Thus, he contracted a private party to effectively convert the Greycliffe into a Shukensha liner.
The work was arduous and took months. The aged vessel was stripped of her outer hull plating, her innards were torn apart, reorganized, and overhauled once again. Finally, after thousands of man-hours and billions of credits, the new Greycliffe was ready.
For the fourth time, she was re-dedicated and re-launched with a minimal ceremony. The venerable old vessel took to her new form with only a few minor hiccups and she can now be seen roaming Sirius as she has always done.
