between the various "minimalist" ships to which I was thinking for a new rp, I also focused on moldy crow.
The rusty look, the fact that it has a severely underpowered core is perfect for me.
But I asked myself a question, that can apply to all vessels equipped with wings or parts exposed: what is the criteria that is used, in Freelancer, to determine whether a piece of the wing comes off as a result of gun shots?
I think the moldy crow has its guns attached to the wing, so if the wing is lost, lost even the guns ... and this is not really the best.
Does anyone know the criteria in greater depth? is based on randomness? I assume there is a correction based on hull strength, but any armor upgrades help to make the wings stronger or not?
And finally, someone flying experiences with the moldy crow?
All Vanilla ships are destructable in terms of the single parts of it. So you can rip apart the two wings of an Eagle or something else at other ships. I think these parts of the ships, the Vanilla models, are own units of the ship, independent from it. If you hit a wing of an Eagle, for example, the HP of the ship takes damage but also the wing. That's the difference between Vanilla ships and the Disco ships....while the Vanilla models have these seperate units of course I am not sure about the Disco models. If you switch to the target view at your target list then you can click the seperate parts of a ship. So far as I know that's only implemented for the Vanilla objects yet. But I am not sure about that.
The model itself, and the various pieces, and the ship entry in shiparch all need to be prepared for individual component destructability. It's a lot of work and to my knowledge no custom ship has this. Only vanilla ships are destructable in that fashion.
That said, weapons themselves do have a hitbox and can take damage, then fall off. Hitting mines or getting blasted with missiles can do that often.
As for the Crow:
- It's a big target. Much like the Spatial, unsuitable for group fights.
- It's agile, can outturn most other HFs. It rolls sharper then it turns.
- It has a reasonable core for a heavy fighter (it's not a VHF).

ok thanks. when I've got an Hegemon, I remember that when I've a "greetings" with a Cruiser, effectively I've lost some class 3 turrets (totally destroyed), but for sure without structural damage.
So guns and equipment have hit points totally independent from hull value, if I've understand correctly: then, before to see a wing destroyed, i suppose that I can see guns or missiles attached in this wing, destroyed (or, in worst case, in the same time), but only in vanilla.
I remember (but not sure was 4.85) my startracker... totally without wing after some hard missions, but maybe cause startracker is a vanilla model...

However, I think there are some weird rules regarding blowing bits of your ship off and never repairing them.
I am not sure about those rules. However, it is exploitable.
Imagine a Bunter Sea Serpent without the top and bottom fins. Its hitbox size is VERY small. It makes it very much harder to hit and yet still maintains the 4 gun firepower.
This is the same with ship models that have wings or fins that do not have weapons on them. By removing the wings or fins, your hitbox is reduced, dramatically.
