Right now, we have been developing the economy of the game - implementing a Primary Production Mod.

"Primary Production" means the miners, people who extract resources.

However many people have noted that we have a rather curious situation, whereby the basic Ore commodity is worth more than the refined metals. Gold Ore worth more than actual Gold?

This is because we dont have any hooks into a manufacturing system...yet.

There are some things I would like to work on after 4.86:

Secondary Production Mod - manufacturing. Being able to add value to Ore commodities by converting them into refined products for sale. Yes that would mean stripping commodities, one by one, out of the normal trade system. Building a 'Technology Tree' as we go.

Such a system has to be built from the ground up.

1) Start with Ores/metals/fuels
2) Other commodities
3) Consumable items like ammunition and BB's
4) Possibly equipment.
5) Possibly even ships.

Don't forget to include base components for player-owned bases! They will probably need to be 'built' as well.


Tertiary Production Mod - trading services. Being able to implement the mining system in reverse, allowing goods to be slowly transferred too and from bases whilst still being in space.

This way, both purchase and sale of potentially all commodities can be controlled by game mechanics a lot better. Just as a single miner can still mine - a single trader can still trade. Greater efficiency granted to people who cooperate - and have freighters on standby to load/unload cargo faster. Yes that would mean stripping docking points for transports off a number of bases.

I can't say that any of this stuff will ever make it into the mod, but these are ideas i would definitely like to explore...

How do you envision "manufacturing" working?...like what would a player be doing in the game?

Wouldn't this be really boring for the freighter captains in remote systems waiting for transports to show up? Or would they only be around the big planets?
