They are restricted to very few id's. They are nearly the size, sometimes longer, than small battleships. They are paper bags with engines.
However, lore wise they are well defended.
Thus i suggest the following:
Add gb mounts to a few slots to enable at least a slight chance of defence.
Same core. same armor. Same sheild.
But for example, prison, royal, slave liners. add 2 gb slots, 1 on each side. (or for SL's case, the top/bottom ones)
Lux liners? 1 on top front, 1 on top back.
The idea: Transport core has little enough regen that missle spam wont be a problem. but WILL enable pulse or razor use to assist in defence. Considering the size, id say asking for only 2 slots on each one to have options to mount gb guns or transport ones is not overpowered, and could be integrated fairly well.
1-2 GB weapons, which have absolutely different prjectile speed, among about 10 transport turrets? Do you really think that would help?
Learn to backfire and turning away from SNACs - that is ONLY one fighting strategy that works for transports against snubs (never used any liner, so I can not say anything about gunboats)
liners once had GB turrets - and for some reason - they were removed. - don t ask me why ... cause its too long ago... but there was considerable complaints about them being too strong ( possibly it was the missiles mounted on them and the pirate snubs complaining about them being too tough )
of course - at that time - liners were both - available as a normal tradeship - AND GB missiles weren t nerft.
Pilgrim liner with all gunboat turrets for piracy, anyone?
No thanks. And they aren't paper bags if you armor them. They are sluggish, have very high hull, but limited defensive capabilities.

Or you could read the actual post, and notice i was suggesting TWO slots for such, not all gb slots. While it is true in .83 they did have gb slots and plants, this is not the case anymore.
Adding 2 gb slots however, could be useful for adding razors or pulses to assist in defence, and will not make the ships overpowered.
Furthermore, i suggested slots with the OPTION to swap them out, similar to the salvager's slots.
Gunboat pulse guns would still make them considerably more powerful then other transports. It would, like the other transports that have gunboat weaponry (the Democritus which uses one more or less like a forward gun, and the Junker Frigate) require a limitation of the arcs. Either that or -all- bigger transports should be getting gunboat weaponry. Not just liners.
The difference between a liner and a transport is only maneuverability (poorer), arament (more guns) and hull rating (better). They are still civilian ships however.

I fly liners on the regular, I have never felt they are too weak. There is enough armor and firepower to get away from most opponents. A liner isnt for duking it out, it is for getting away with your passengers safe.

I don't know how well adding a pitifully small amount of Gunboat turrets would work on ships the size of Liners.
This is true, only two slots wouldn't do much for a liner and may even make it more awkward in combat, especially if the plant doesn't change. I'm not saying the plant should change. You make a very valid point about the lore of the liner and the same can be said for many ships in Disco. However, do that in combination with the way people would start using them would offset the balance of the game.

Exactly. Unless you are going up against another transport, or a gunboat with bomber support don't expect to take a liner into combat and be successful......that's not in the lore and it wasn't meant to do that.
