Ladies and gentlepeople of discovery,
I was attempting to develop a new event/competition. Several teams of pirates would attempt to gather the most units of cargo through piracy. We were fairly far with actually launching this but then some smart lad thought about how we could make sure that nobody cheats.
The question is: "How can we make sure that the piracy that is registered is not just someone who asked his friends to move some units down a specified area to make sure he could pirate them?"
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, thank you for taking the time to actually read this.

You cant, you'll just have to trust the pirates. Wait, did I put the words "trust" and "pirates" in the same sentence?

Not sure about friends, but at least there's a way to check if the trader is pirate's another char :)
Actually, I think there's too much effort in asking your friends, then wait for them... It's much easier just to sit near the lane and have fun. Disco is for fun!:yahoo:
So, never mind those "cheaters", competitions are always fun. Just make sure indies are allowed to participate.
And I hope you don't have to own a pirate transport to compete. The best way to do this would be just to ask the trader to jetisson some stuff, then printscreen it, and then destroy.
I think, if you get responsible pirate - groups, like officials or trustworthy pirates, all of them will play fair, because it's ways more fun that way.
A lack of challenge kills the fun afterall.
Even though you put it on hold, do you really think it's a good idea to throw even more pirates at the traders and even pressure the pirates via competition into pirating for all cargo or just destroying the traders so they get their hands on the cargo?
I'm very much against such event, as I fear it will turn out very ugly for the traders, who already have a lot of pirates to deal with.

Oh look, it's this discussion again... Get escorts or make a lawful char and go hunt pirates
About the event being put on hold, all I can say is

I don't see much of a discussion here.
I critize the event because it is an open hunt on traders with the aim of getting as much cargo as possible from them, which in the end means either pirating for all cargo or destroying them. I'm seriously getting tired of you starting the same old discussion again and again, if you got no better arguments, then please don't respond to my posts, because this is only borderline trolling.
Events which bring activity are nice, but events which probably lead to even more horrendous demands is not going to be fun for everyone. If the event was about "who can pirate the most while only pirating for 1 million credits" or something like that - that would at least assure the traders aren't totally abused, but still I don't see, that an event is necessary to increase pirate's activity. A competition of "what lawful (house military or police) can shoot the most pirates" would be needed more here. But heh, doubt I would support that either.
Not really. From the draft I saw it seems there will be several restrictions to what the teams will be able to do in order to avoid the situations you mentioned. I don't wanna say too much but there will be a limit to how much you can demand from a single trader/miner.
Why don't you wait to see exactly what Senor Ronaldo has in mind before you go "no u"?
