It would be nice to have a live IM conversation with forum members without having to add each and every one of them onto my skype. Just a thought, it wouldn't hurt!

Good luck finding someone to play mod in that anarchy. Someone other then people waving the banhammer as their epeen that is...
But that aside, find yourself an open IRC service with chat applet and have at it. Call the main channel #spamcentral.
Wide awake in a world that sleeps, enduring thoughts, enduring scenes. The knowledge of what is yet to come.
From a time when all seems lost, from a dead man to a world, without restraint, unafraid and free.

A forum based irc would fall under forum rule jurisdiction. Ewww.
I'm not sure if we even have the option here, but don't look at it like the boards lack functionality...think of it more like an efficient policy of pre-emptive peace management.
Hmm, what if there was a limit to the people, like a prerequisite. Like it only allows you to chat if you had a certain amount of posts (I think 100-200 would be a good starter). I knew forums in the past that actually require you to have a certain amount of posts before you could even try to type in the chat box. I just think it would be nice to have one. And if you worry about there not being order, how about rules? No swearing, no spamming, no trials, no debating, no questions on the game, etc. It would just be casual talk.

what if a newbie needs help with something? or, put 10sec delay between messages

imo the idea sucks
If a newbie needs help with something, he can ask a question in the discussion section. It ain't rocket surgery, bro. It's called ChatBox, not Let-us-ask-a-questionBox.
forums are based on threads ,topics, to post on and track them. How can you track anyone ön chatbox.
Bottemline: if chatbox exist here then no need to post on forums all done live.
