There is no limit on size alone.
Poly count (Generally the detail of the ship) does have a limit, roughly 20-30,000. This can be bypassed and has been done by Freeworlds, who had ISDs with 100,000+ polys (They since optimised these models to lower poly counts as it makes computers have to chug harder to render more polys).
View distance has a limit. It too can be bypassed. It is really the only problem that can appear when designing extremely large ships or objects.
The lesser issue of gunplacement also comes into play. Your autotracking won't be of much use if your guns are 5k down your bow and then 25k further down again.
Not entirely true Linkus. Models do have limits - based generally on the maximum value any coordinate in the model can have. But these distances are so extreme that for all practical purposes a model does not have a limit. For instance, remember the inside of the Dyson Sphere, or Nomad City? Models. And you can make any model mobile.
Beyond a certain point it becomes impractical to fly one however.
View distance is configurable in either shiparch or solararch. It's not a part of the model itself.
Wide awake in a world that sleeps, enduring thoughts, enduring scenes. The knowledge of what is yet to come.
From a time when all seems lost, from a dead man to a world, without restraint, unafraid and free.
Mostly retired Discovery member. May still visit from time to time.
View distance causes problems in different ways than we encounter here. The SSD in Freeworlds cannot be seen from one end to the next, Freelancer simply stops rendering it about 3/4s of the way down the bow.

The inside of the Dyson sphere in vanilla was a background image, you couldn't actually fly along it:) The outside was a model, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually several models combined...
PS. i was going to say the Super star destroyer, which ive seen around,(i think its the orignal Freeworlds, 18.45 or it might be the new freeworlds tides of war 2.0 in the beta pictures) which is 19k long.
