There ARE styles except jousting and sniping. And they DO allow to keep shooting at target for enough time. Weapons with refire lower then 4.0 don't allow to keep aiming while sliding, when faster refire works just awesome. Watch some vids from satanic HHC if you don't believe me.

If you put Sammaels or Belials on, say, an Eagle, you'd be short for power even without the auto-nerfed powercore. The guns were designed for the Rogue snub ships because they're all very large ships, and their oversize nature is compensated by large powercores and heavier weapons slots. The broadside of a Werewolf is huge, the Greyhound has had a wonky balance history, and the Hyena is a light fighter that could probably be a VHF if it were a little larger and had more guns.
Besides, guns and armor alone do not decide a fight. Agility and player skill factor in as well.
