I'm just wondering. How long it takes a foreigner to become an addict while living in Malta? How do you think?
I believe that it needs a longer period, since the injection of Cardamine gives you a bigger dose of drug to make you addictive intentionally. While the planet itself is just covered by drug's essence.

Go with this. There is nothing in the lore that says how long you'd have to breath in the air on Malta before you're addicted as if you were taking it though a mask or injection. Personally I'd say less than a week, probably a full 24 hours and you'd be addicted. But a week is fine. All visitors to Malta who don't want to take Cardi should be using oxygen masks.
Quote:The crippled sleeper ship Hispania arrived in Omicron Alpha almost 800 years ago. Its passengers named the planet Malta -- a harsh place of acidic oceans, gray skies, and vast plains covered in a species of tall, thin, orange grass. They later learned that the grass could be rendered into a narcotic substance, that they called Cardamine.
Eventually the Outcasts -- as they came to think of themselves -- began limited exploration of their system. As pilots wandered farther and farther afield in search of resources, many became seriously ill. Upon planetfall, the crews mysteriously recovered.
So they had time to land and realized the effects after they started to explore. I'd say more then a month if you just breathe it as part of the air.
