' Wrote:Demanding of someone to reveal who they are, when you have no authority to do it, and if its against their will, is a violation of basic human rights, and therefore people should have a right to remain secret if they wish so. Admins as I said can know it because they need to in order to enforce the rules and keep order. The community has absolutely no reason to know this though. You can of course demand it, but people should not be forced to bow to some random individuals whims in order to have fun. If the individuals in the faction choose to reveal who they are by their own choice, then its alright, but forcing them is wrong.
The only people who want to know who is in what faction, what they fly or what they do are the Moaning people who look to PvP whore members on that name and look for their other names to complain if they attack, i for one are not in the Wild faction never wanted to be or even in and elite faction i am NovaPG and RoS......
People complain about other so called factions IE: the Phantoms, The Wild, the Keepers and so forth due to the fact their RP is not sound enough to be in them, 101st was invite and hence eppy took over it because it was dying of death, now he looks for people to blame.
As stated in my previous Post Patrick has worked for months on this Idea and faction status, and deserves a bloody medal for all the hard work he did, now you guys the so called members elite of discovery are crapping their pants due to a solid RP from a member, God forbid some one got it correct first time, i have in all my time never seen a faction proposal go to nearly 4000 views in so short of time.
Again i ask Korrd in the Absence of Igiss to respond here for i know you have read every post.
Get it sorted Victor for this idea should not go to waste.
You are correct. It is a violation of human rights if you are forced. That said, by joining a faction you are voluntarily surrendering a degree of the privacy you enjoy otherwise.
EDIT:

Pardon me? I'd call that a flame if I could understand it. I think I get the gist, but there are a few key words which I'm not sure on that could change the entire meaning of the above...

How is this related to the discussion we're having again?

Oh really. Up until recently you were a member of the Keepers, certainly an 'elitist' faction, and may still be a member of the [IND], which is also invite-only. You were a member of the 101st before I was in command, and possibly the Phantoms, though that I have no confirmed reports of and is only speculation.

Eppy, you should not be forced to surrender a degree of your privacy, and I still do not see proof that you do have to. I have personally never hidden any of my characters, but I do respect those who want to and I do not ask them who they are, that's frankly unnecessary curiousness about things you should not or have a need to know. Now I know humans are generally curious, but to each their own. Not everyone needs to bow down to one person's standard.
Why are they hiding?
What have they done? Planning to do? Most other factions list membership rather clearly, and its a decent thing to do. If the whole thing is there are people who don't want to be known, I'm willing to accept that. But it looks like just another way to up the elitism of the group to me. As far as a reason to know, suppose I was researching for an RP? or wanted to talk to one of them, rather than report them? Its like opting out of the phone directory, and wont do you any good. If flames begin, and a forum account isn't available, wouldn't they just flame the character? It may make it much harder to have a reasonable discussion, if a participant is hiding. Never demanded to know. Demanded to know why not.
' Wrote:Again, I disagree. If I reported every time somebody invaded my privacy I'd have about six people banned (who, because I respect their privacy more than they respect mine, shall go unnamed). As much as it pains me to say, in the age of the Internet privacy is a dying thing.
Not my point eppy. It is the duty of this community to make it easier for its members to rp. This is not about real life privacy, this is about making it so people don't judge your rp based on what your other chars do. I have a few secret chars, its up to your to find out who they are.
@Unselie... It's not about hiding anything its about creating a more immersive experience of the game.
Unselie, its not just about them, if you had a person who is a good RPer, wanting to join one of your factions, and the person says he wants to keep quiet about who he is for whatever personal reason or whatever he's got, would you deny him access because of that? That's discrimination.
Wild idea isn't new...i think it, actually, dates from last year, from time that keepers started to go official...
well, maybe i just saw that idea for the first time then...but what ever it is...it isn't new...
This may have came as surprise to admins, but i think they deserve same time and looking into as any other faction proposal, and i strongly object to any surprise excuse...
Every single faction proposal is surprise for it self, and the fact is that this one is far better prepared and researched then most of faction proposals i have seen lately. Yes, it deserves some special care cause of need of admin interfering in players reputation and cause of delicate role play it will have.
But i ask you...what does costs us, as community, to try this?...
also...this discussion took wrong turn...keep on target and discus about wild and this proposal, not about NovaPG or Keeper member list, or reasons for 101st lack of members (or whatever)...
What about the people who take it beyond RP. The people that actually hold grudges. There is people out there that would PvP whore every char you had. Because they didnt like you. Im not saying they would do it out of RP. They just make a char thats on the opposite side. Also i have heard stories of personal threats against people being made. I have had people giving me abuse personaly because they lost a fight or somthing silly like that.
I think if you wish to keep a char secret as long as the admins know thats all that matters.
I wasn't planning on touching this poast with someone else's ten foot pole. *waits a moment for chuckles to die*
But I've noticed that the last few pages have somewhat deviated from the proposal of a Wilde faction (that particular discussion is, in itself, rather done for the immediate moment pending specific voices to chime in) and towards one of whether or not the Wilde faction, terrorist factions, or factions in general need release a list of any and all members within their ranks for the scrutiny, policing and general census by the community at large.
I would suggest that conversation be taken out of this thread, as this isn't the place for it regardless of the context it sets.
With respect,
-This guy.
