yet again it got me thinking, seeing the recent rants rambles and whatnot about capital ships, general balance, the empty Gallia, the boring outcasts, the this and the that and all that stuff related to all the this that.
Now we all know how most of the caps badly suck in terms of RP, gameplay, fairplay, *something*-play. But not only them. Here, the general server population comes to play. There are countless topics about unfair, stupid and -ish play and interaction that you receive, simply because you let anybody in and let him have any ship at all.
Maybe this is the point? Ask yourself the question, is the player amount that we have worth the hassle we get? Do you value the interaction with those you eventually spit on here on forums? I fail to see it probably, but I do believe that having at least SOME trial of understanding of rules and behaviour prior to being thrown to Liberty would do much good. But thats just me.
We have alot of players, half of them we complain about. Do we need them then? Is the populated yet lolwuttery full disco better then less bigger, more mature buncha folks?
Disco's player count is probably the only thing keeping it going.
Any measures made that will directly (negatively) affect the player count could very possibly send it to it's grave, like so many other Freelancer mods.
A vast majority of players come because Disco has the biggest playerbase, and I doubt most of them have the desire to roleplay at a level we would consider 'decent'. Roleplayers (read: those that come to Disco for roleplay, or at least enjoy it on top of the game aspect) are a minority, sadly.
It's current lifetime cannot be measured, due to the relatively steady income of players, but if it were to lose say, half of it's current average players, I think it's time could begin to be measured in months.
What you suggest may solve a single problem, but it opens up many new problems. A good idea would perhaps be to essentially restart Discovery with a new mod, keeping the ships and a select few mod systems.
That said, deleting the player files would probably cause a few people to leave, too.:P
Theres no problem with "lolwuts". They are just people that are here to have fun. And I bet they are having way more fun at the game than a good deal of the people that use that term.
So..You want to somehow make new players earn the right to play here? Plus it is not just caps that do not RP. Snubs/transports and every other type of ship in game is also guilty. Probably more so, but Caps just stand out more.
Anything that will limit players, will limit Discovery.

No im not saying earn.
Im saying just like - make sure they can understand the rules and speak at least basic english. Im all for the fun but flying in NY and reading the system chat : xD Rus and stuff, booring
Freelancer ain't no WoW. We don't have some huge playerbase that can last us throughout the millenia. Removing more people isn't really the goal we want to go towards here.
I think we can leave the "lolwuts" as they are. Maybe, someday, just maybe, they may learn to roleplay and enjoy the server with the level of competence required.
Also, the "lolwuts" give me something to shoot at. Cool.
Lolwuts are an issue but not to the degree that many people complain about, we just need a much more direct way of explaining the RP aspect to them, in my opinion anyway.
