Ok, I will admit it man. When you put it that way it makes more sense. Though I still think 1)trade shields should not be nerfed and 2)It should take either an insane amount of skill or teamwork to bring down a massive transport in a fighter(s).
I also think powerful trading ships are great for those independent pirates that act alone and think they are such hot stuff. I have a lot more respect and fear for clans and groups than I do independents who act alone. For example, if an independent with a pirate id in a heavy fighter demanded money, I would not give it to him, but do you know how little of a fight I would put up against phantoms in vhf's that wanted money? I wouldn't put up any fight. I do that mainly to encourage people to get together and rp with others.
I usually tend to pay-up, but I often tell pirates that they're 'welcome to try' to take my valuable cargo. Usually leads to great RP. Sometimes the pirate can get my shields down and I surrender, not wanting any scratches on my nice ship, and sometimes the poor pirate has to tuck its tail between its legs and flee.
Humanitarian Psychopath, thats just the way some traders are. Hell, see 15 like that every day.
My tip to you, get agressife. Show them who's boss, bring a friend along or a big fat supernova. I personally work with certain ammount of steps.
1. Train CD the buggers.
2. Ask them, in any way, for a certain ammount. This can either be done, verry RP, or verry quick.
3. wait 5 seconds for them to respond, if they dont, show'm you mean busniss. Get'm.
4. If they decide to stop, fine, accept it. If they dont, kill'm.

You don't need an insane amount of skill. A decent enough teamwork with 2 VHFs or 1VHF/1Bomber would be enough, say one of them with a CD mounted while the other one with an inferno or mini razor/SN. You could take on in a bomber alone, if you have a CD mounted on and know what you are doing.
Just like Kress said, you can do it by yourself. CD, and a supernova/mini razor/ inferno.
How ever, working in packs allways tends to be more effective. Make sure that, at least two in the pack have a CD, incase one isnt close enough or has run out. The rest, well, letm do what their good at.
In the future, we will require deep-strike capabilities to penetrate and engage high-value targets during the first minutes of hostilities anywhere in the battlespace.

There is a tendency in our planning to confuse the unfamiliar with the improbable. The contingency we have not considered seriously looks strange; what looks strange is thought improbable; what is improbable need not be considered seriously.
"I have a lot more respect ( it is not a question of respect. - you shouldn t have more or less respect for anyone on the base of how they are acting ( as independent of in a faction ) if anything, its a question of fear only, but respect sounds very wrong in that place )and fear for clans and groups than I do independents who act alone. For example, if an independent with a pirate id in a heavy fighter demanded money, I would not give it to him( hopefully you d change your mind when you re about to be taken out. - not paying up based on if its a single independent or a very same skilled person, but with a tag should not make a major difference to your char when it looks grim ), but do you know how little of a fight I would put up against phantoms in vhf's that wanted money?( hmm, is that based on the players knowledge, or it is your chars RP knowledge... and even so, whats the reason for that i wonder ) I wouldn't put up any fight. I do that mainly to encourage people to get together and rp with others."
to describe what i would do. - if i feel that i am in an advantage, i d drop him a good answer and fend him off, no matter if he s in a faction or not. my char gives a damn about if its a lane hacker, a rogue or a phantom. my char was never pirated by a rogue, and has never ever seen a phantom. - so why should i fear them? this is based on RP and not player knowledge.
sorry to pick your answer and tore it apart like that - but i felt like i d have to comment on how you evaulate players, factions and RP.
