Still keep the /restart xyz for people who actually want to get involved with a specific faction or so.
What are your thoughts on that?
Well. It'd be a tad troublesome to end up somewhere problematic in a starter ship, then they'll be inconvenienced by the process of returning to where they actually intended to go. Or simply being confused and dying in a newbie ship that finds itself in Omega 41. Not insanely newbie friendly.
People will go where they wanna go. Population centers attract persons. Sending them to the land of nod doesn't make much of a dent in those constants.

Well, they could get a Civilian HF then, with lvl 8 Weapons or so and a few credits to spend if they start up in harsh environments.
Or well, a nice Freighter would do it to because the Surveyor is also worth 2 Million, so an X-Shuttle or whatsoever would make a nice startup ship in the Omegas as well.
Btw, we are talking about Liberty, yes but it is not only because it is so central. It is also because the regular startup Planet is Erie.
They will move to where they want from respawn location, then come to forum to whine about how restart put their fresh Gallic characters in Corsair guard system.
It's a nice idea. I often dislike having to move great distances to create a character which should have been there in the 1st place(based on the character). Not because of the effort, but because it puts a dent in the experiance for me. Sometimes I'll fly to the place the character should be, one day. Then a week or so later I'll pick it up again, and it feels like the character origionated there, maybe a bit strange, but hey I think role playing is.
It would be nice if you could keep the current system intact completely and have a "/restart random" command, if a random starting location is even fesable in the code layout. You could select random and play a character from wherever you ended up.
I see 2 ways of solving the starflier in omega 41 problem. A quick psudo-solution, just draw as much cash as necissary to get you started with the various factions most basic ships(means the code isn't for beginners, and prevents closed economy gameplay). And a more complex one, each spawn location could be assesed on it's level of enemies and the starting ordinance chosen accordingly. Similar to the way the outcast CSVs get Outcast guns(I think, I don't use /restart).
I don't think that any of this will solve the population issues, you don't find 10 people floating around planet x because it's boring, starting there isn't going to change that. Only thing that will change that is more players, which is impossible because the server is full every night, The sirius sector's size is enough to cater for player counts in the thousands, the server, however proabably never will be.
Just my opinion.(remember, I actually know very little)

This.
there already is a /restart command.
I like your intentions, get all the systems busy... but if the player limit is ~200 and there are ~100 systems, if we evened it out there would be less RP, not more, as there would be less encounters. Humans are sociable creatures, and often congregate together in bars and nightclubs. new york and gamma are no different.
HOWEVER
/summon cannon
is it possible to add a /restart random command? Cos this would have win.
