It worked very well I must say.
I bet it would add a great additional load for the server which is already laggy enough.
I didn't say that it wouldn't be nice to see something like that, but ... we can only keep dreaming.
making battleships massive enough not to spin around will make navigating through asteroids easy enough. - i do not agree with the general statement that "battleships shouldn t go through rocks anyway" - cause its down to the situation. of COURSE you can go through asteroids and its NOT oorp. - but of course, you re a sitting duck and two bombers can prolly take you down while they dodge behind rocks and shoot their SNs in turns on the not moving brick.
if a battleship captain is good enough to really slip through the rocks ( not everyone is flying a HUGE battleship, the BHG BB is fairly small for example ) its all fine.
so i would say that complaining that a BB is a sitting duck in an asteroid field is ooRP, but going through it isn t ooRP, its silly - very well inchar - but even then, sometimes necessary. ooRP is a players term, being silly is a characters term.
why I dont want to see capship go in asteroid field (and might I say, I drive a dreadnaught), is that otherwise pursuit would be awesomely terrible. A criminal can escape me by hiding in the field, and I wont pursue him. Nor would anyone with a little bit of a brain.
without, I still wont go in a field to pursue, but there are those who doesnt care about fairness and rp...
Battleship..are big..massive.....asteroid field? use its mass enough to "crash" out a route for him...(look at those rock's size compare to BS's size..., BS just simply going to break those rock in to dust by run over it...
in star wars for instance, the star destroyers could actually go through asteroid field. But recall the Super class Executor itself was having trouble going in them, the captain saying the shields would severly suffer (but Vader was being an *** so they went in anyway).
If they were allowed in, I expect asteroids to hurt them badly.
(consider SSD Executor a 8km long ship, a rm battleship probably is roughly less than 1km. If we put this proportional to shield power... have a guess.)
If that moving asteroid mod was implemented... you wouldn't be able to get me out of it, and the first thing I'd do is surround a docking ring or something with them, and I'd do it for amusement. now think of how many people would use this for profit... putting aside the lag issues

Reality check; Battleships can't move around in the edge worlds without entering asteroid fields. It's a fact of life. Under the premise that Battleships souldn't enter asteroid fields, that means a Gamma-based battleship has about a quarter of a system to move around in, and can't leave the system.
Whilst I believe in the radiation principle (further from source (eg. Gamma) weaker the effect (smaller the ships) ) the assertion that in cases such as the Corsairs, Outcasts and Zoners, Battleships shouldn't enter asteroid fields is ridiculous.
Hell, the Blood Dragon Battleship is practically (if I'm not mistaken) only available within an asteroid field. (Kyoto, Dragon city, is in a system-wide field. The Dragon guard system attaches only to this system). You're therefore suggesting that Blood Dragon Battleships shouldn't be allowed to leave the NovaPG guard system.
As I Corsair, I would not deploy either of our Battleships into Omega-41, beyond Omicron Theta (or Alpha on rare occasion). I would not deploy them beyond Omicron Delta. However, the suggestion that Battleships shouldn't enter fields limits a Corsair battleship's movement to Gamma only.
Come to think of it, they're available only at Tripoli shipyard, inside an asteroid field!. So...you're saying that Corsair Battleships shouldn't be able to undock.
